Was it his first? or are the genes in his area really bad? or the dirt? or do all the hunters in his area shoot yearlings? or do they have a continuous gun season that doesn't allow archers to hunt the peak rut all to themselves?

The cost of a mount has nothing to do with the size of the rack. A lot of people buy mounts to go in bars etc. Ever been in a Cracker Barrel? I know one of the buyers for CB. He buys a lot of old mounts.
But not for that price.
