Mr. Shipley didn't do anything that most of us haven't done many times. He is simply a firearms enthusiast. Scary to think things can go so wrong so fast.

I think Mr. Shipley is a gun dealer without a license. Selling a .50 for 4K in profit days later? My guess is he bought it with the intent to re-sell. Just a guess, I really dont know. Should he be prosecuted for this? I dont think so, he is going to be the scape goat for the BATF doing the exact same thing with hundreds of weapons being sent across the border and they need some big cases to get the heat off themselves.

He is going to be the scape goat for the BATF doing the exact same thing with hundreds of weapons being sent across the border and they need some big cases to get the heat off themselves.
That is what I think happened in this case.

I am with you on this one. Although if he is "dealing" weapons without a license, should he be prosecuted?
Red flag...why would an FBI agent, in a border area with a gun smuggling sell a rifle for an extreme profit? If I were in his shoes, I would question the motive of someone offering that amount of money. Either the buyer could not legally purchase a weapon (this is the case here), or the buyer was purchasing the weapon in this manner to "break the paper chain". Or the buyer is just stupid, which if this were the case, I dont think we would be talking about this subject.

I hope they tie Michael Bloomberg into the whole thing too. He too has sent people into gun stores to make straw purchases. Would be nice if they could get him and every Mayor that supports his Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
