First the cops should and I hope would confront anyone open carrying and you should expect and not get offended by it. Second what neighborhoods do ya'll live in that fell the need run around packing heat all the time. Killing someone is'nt as fun as the movies makes it out to be. I live in a small town that has very little crime. However, there are rapes, robberies and murders on occasion. I choose to be prepared for such occasions.

Ya my point was that not everyone has a permit that is carrying and that if you do get stopped it shouldn't bother you. And if a cop is a little over the top I'm sure he's more concerned about going home than hurting your feelings.

Remember in Tennessee it's a 'carry permit' - period.
It just happens to cover both situations -
Check your local laws, different states have different permits -

I don't like open carry - because it takes away the element of suprise - which, can and will, save you life someday ferg.... Not entirely true in a state that is known for concealed carry, but yes it may...
Ya I know - I was just compairing open to CC - I'll take the suprise option everyday -
ferg....

I would hope he'd be concerned with the Constitution; but I guess I'm just 200 years too late.

First the cops should and I hope would confront anyone open carrying and you should expect and not get offended by it. IMO, that is the most disturbing sentence in this entire thread.
Someone carrying a weapon in a holster or visibly in their vehicle in not a legal reason to detain someone, so says SCOTUS. Caselaw actually says that carrying a weapon is like "carring a wallet" An LEO must have RAS or PC OTHER than the simple possesion in a holstered weapon to legaly stop, question and especially detain you. Simple phrases like Am I free to go or Am I being detained can tell you the level or tier of LEO intent. Been carrying for a loooong time OC and CC...never had anything done but a nod and a Hello.

Sorry, that dont hold water either. A person open carrying a weapon is not likely to be a crimminal and an Officers going home does not trump Rights, no not 2nd ammendmant rights, 4th ammendmant!! Once again caselaw supports that. If an LEO is a little over the top he should not be an LEO...simple. Have several friends and aquaintences that are LEO and I have not known any of them to be "a little over the top" ever.

I personally know some cops that think they are the only ones that should be allowed to carry. They are a minority, but they are out there. Would you happen to be a cop that feels that way?
As Unicam said, I have never had an officer give me any trouble what so ever. Most are sensible, but there are some on a power trip.

im going to agree with Unicam on this, the only reason some countrys have not attacked us is they know we have the same as them, deterrence is the name of the game in open carry, how many times has anybody heard of a police officer attacked in a bank that was being robbed?

Try this...
Your eating at Luby's or Picadilly
Mad mad rushing in with an "assault" rifle and demands everyone get on the floor.
now first reaction would be wait till he is not looking, draw and take him down.
If your carrying Open and he sees that are you gonna be able to wait till he is not looking or will you be the first to get mowed down by his "assault "rifle.
Just a thought and a reason why I like to carry concealed
If it is in a holster on your hip, and you are sitting down in a booth or a table, how is the perp going to know you have a gun in a holster on your hip?
