A certain group has proclaimed that May 21st will be the end of the world. I cannot help but pause in reflection, considering my schedule for that potential Day of Doom...
At 9:30 AM a young man who grew up in my children's and teen's programming at church will be the center of attention, along with his lovely fiance', at a wedding shower. The ceremony is a month away. Perhaps it is the end of the world as he knows it.
At 2 PM a 40-something friend and co-worker will participate, along with his lovely fiance', in a ceremony that will be a first for me. Despite having performed dozens of weddings, and attended dozens more, this particular ceremony will be held in period costume, as both bride and groom are members of an SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) group, otherwise known as Medieval Re-enactors. Sure, they're self-admittedly a little nerdy, but don't make any of them mad, because they most certainly have the skills to beat you into a bloody pulp with a mace or broadsword, then pour you into the same hole you were digging as you tried to escape. It will be quite the celebration, and, quite likely, the end of the world as they know it.
And throughout the entire day, I and my lovely bride will be celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary (not even counting the two years of dating that preceded our nuptials). We will be blessed to have both of our children home with us for at least part of the day. Most importantly, we will be with each other. 28 years ago at just about this time tonight, I was with my buddies, just about to leave the rehearsal, and heading to the one theater we had in town to watch Roy Schieder's powerful portrayal in "Blue Thunder"; that's what us good Christian boys called a bachelor party in my hometown. But we had to go party because the next morning would be the end of the world as I knew it.
This morning a friend of mine from church was murdered. He was loveable, extroverted, incredibly friendly, always eager to help anyone in need, upbeat, and, fortunately, a follower of Christ. I don't know how time works in Heaven, but by the 21st of May, he will have spent his first full earthly day in a world as he had never before known it.
Sometimes it does me good to remember that moving past the world as you have known it... is sometimes a dang good trade.
Dead or alive, may we all rest in His peace, each and every day.

sorry bout your friend! bless your wife for putting up with a hunter for 28 years.. mines done it for 30 I didn't start hunting until I was about 26 or 27, 6-7 years into the marriage, but never for a second has she failed to be 100% supportive, and we've raised our kids on meat I've killed.
That's probably why my kids are so anemic.

Does this mean I don't need to worry about the 155 acres of hay on the ground?
