Dodge man gave the best answer. just as with a bow, it will be whatever one you shoot the best. I prefer a Parker-Hale .308. The .308 is my preference for most NA big game. Moose being the only possible exception. Mr. hale made the gun for me close to 30 years ago and it is still knocking them down. I like the versatility of loading up and down.

Shoot whatever you want.

follow the herd to walmart, get you a 30cal Something /06

then after you've bagged a couple dozen, explore the 6.5 and 7mm realm of shooting

cant go wrong with either. my choice would be the 270, you might not have to shoot long range now but you might one day.

.270 or 30/06 aren't bad calibers both would be ok choices. If you'll learn your gun and what it will do, you'll be able to kill anything you want with either gun. It's not gun performance, its shooter performance.

go ol fashion steel bumper works good but I use rem 30-06. and .270 win. I have buddies that use 300 win mags and 7 mm but I see alot of big holes that take alot of good meat away but then again they dont have to track them
