i been looking for a new rifle since i sold my 243 rossi combo a few years ago.and i been looking at the 270 and the 30-06 rifle in mossberg 100atr bolt action.so i was woundering which one would be best for deer. i'm not goin to be taking long range shots but i might go on some wild hog hunting to.so i thought i might get the 270 and use it for deer and hog.you advice is sure appreciated on which new rifle to get.

The most common answer you will get will be what ever you can shoot the best! ;\)

I really like a 300 WSM but most say it is over kill but I have never had to track a deer with it seance I started using it 7 years ago! \:\)

Same brass, just 0.031" difference in diameter of the bullets. You'll never be able to tell the difference IMO.

the 30-06 is slightly more versatile as there are many more 30 cal. bullet choices. you can't go wrong with either.

Whatever you like and can shoot well. As for any differences in .270 and .30-06 in a hunting situation, you won't notice any.

Just like everybody else has said imo as well. 30-06 is a little more versatile for buying ammo as stik said I believe. .270 shoots a little flatter traj for a little longer range imo also. That said, for closer range shooting, I would opt for the '06.
