Just bought a new home that is a split foyer. Want to take the carpet up in the lower level which we are going to use as the kids play area and put down Laminate hardwood. Plus this is where the dogs primiarly come and go thru. It does not seem too hard, maybe just time consuming. Any thoughts, pointers, tips. etc.
Thanks

It is not hard at all. Just start square to your room and it will go fine. I would wear knee pads and ready for a back ache.

I did ours diagonal to the walls, looks pretty neat, but was more work. I don't recommend it. I got the kind that has the padding already attached to the boards. Cost a little more, but easier to install.

Shop the laminate.
Spend a little extra and get one with a thicker "laminate" top.
I just installed some that seemed like a color photo glued a board. Scratched way too easy. IT was the bottom price level stuff.
Used some midpriced stuff that was like iron. Held up to dogs, sand, me.... still looked new after 5 years.

Like Hog said, get the kind that has the padding attached to it. Start square, is time consuming, especially if you do it by yourself, getting up and down, cutting and so on. Good Luck

Absolutely....most laminates are 3/8" or less. I'd go as close to 1/2" as you could. Also, spring for the extra money and get the "quiet" underlay. It takes away from that hollow clacking that makes laminate sound so cheap.

I've done several rooms myself. Going through doorways presented a little challange in order not to show gaps, but I figured it out. The new laminates look great and come in many styles. I didn't have the myriad of choices when I laid mine that they have now.
One other thing. The stuff is pretty tuff. A few weeks ago, my stepson was helping me move the gun safe which was about all me and him could handle. As we were going thru the doorway into the the intended room the safe made contact with the floor's surface and at the same time he gave it a good shove. Didn't want him to do that, but he didn't know any better. Was expecting the worst and was surprised to discover only scuff marks. Not very noticable and nothing I can't live with.
Good Luck.

we have it in our kitchen and eating area, I like it but the dogs nails gets on my nerves when she walkes across it. If I could get a dog declawed I would like it more. eventually I am going to tile it all just because I like tile more, but as far as laying it, its very easy to do
