I would push it as far as the School Superintendent. If for no other reason it will show your child at an early age how important it is for him to achieve & maintain excellence in his education & work ethics. You are in the midst of demonstrating a life-long lesson to your son. Prayers for the best for you & your son.
Good advice from everyone, but this is almost exactly what I was going to say!

I don't know, he may be too young but....
Might be a good lesson on doing your best regardless of who is watching and always pursuing personal excellence.
IMO doing well in school should be considered the lowest common denominator NOT the pinnacle of personal achievement.

I would ask the principal if they had intended to omit your child from recognition and be diplomatic about it. And probably leave it at that.
I would not recommend pulling a 'Moesha' on them and causing a big stink.

Yep. Your boy worked hard and most certainly deserves an award.

Our school system dose not give A, B, C grades anymore up to 2nd grade I know it might go higher. My daughter gets +'s or -'s for a report card and she is is 2nd grade right now and that is all she has ever got is +'s. They do grade some of the homework but she never has got a final grade.

Guess I'm in the minority, I say unfortunate. I would tell him he did a good job and reward him myself. Just tell him in moving from one school to another this sometimes happens. Take him to Mickey D's and buy him an ice cream cone and tell him to keep up the good work. If I had a good relationship with his teacher, I may ask them if they had some type of certificate they could give him, but wouldn't push it.

That's true but they should be the equivalent of what the other school gave . I don't know about the award situation because some schools differ in that catagory but still I definitly think he should be reconized ! This could damper his spirit and damage his drive towards doing his best ! Like others have said it could be a lesson learned on the unfair aspects of life and maybe you could have the teacher also explain the situation to him but be civil because it could hurt your child in the long run ... all teachers & schools are not created equal ! Hope it all goes well for your child !!

If it was that big of deal, I would have checked into the rules ahead of time and considered another school and/or residence if they didn't suit you. What's important in my eyes is that he knows you're proud of him.

I would just ask the principle about it. In the 2nd grade its not that big a deal to change something even if its a "rule". But then again it depends on the principle. But at this point the moment is gone.
