the "blue haired people" in Memfrica are crying about the animals at the shelter there being put down, maybe they need to dip into their pockets deeper or take some of the animals home

Does it bother me, yes, but not as much as the reason for the problem to begin with, (irresponsible people causing these excess animals).

Same here Steven, not a job I like but for some reason I'm the guy around here that gets the call.

When I was younger and didn't understand, it bothered me...but now I am just glad they have a humane way of disposing of these animals. If I could, I would give them all a home too...but that just isn't going to happen.

But I tell you what does make me mad-Due to PETA and other animal rights groups screaming to the government about rendering plants, legislation has made it illegal.

I know you know of someone who isn't taking care of their horses as they should because they can't afford to (or they're just careless pieces of sh*t). Anyways- this problem became CRYSTAL CLEAR to me at auction this last weekend. I have never seen so many sorry looking animals as I did on Saturday. At first I was so mad...like "these people should be ashamed of themselves..." Then it hit me... I honestly believe that if we rendered large animals like we did in the past, we wouldn't have as many people waiting to last minute to sell them...they do because they can't afford them. And you can't even GIVE AWAY a horse right now...

It's sad.

End rant :-)

You know what is sad, I had a horse a couple years back that came down with colic, the trainer had work with her for over 3 hours by means of medication and walking her around. I got there to take over and I was ready to put her down because a vet could not show up until later that evening. I was told that I could not because I might get in trouble. What the hell, I had to set there for 5 hours watch my horse in pain and suffering and could do nothing for her. She died on the ground with her head in my lap, I felt like a POS because I could not help her and she was made to suffer until her last breath.

Gov't needs to stay out of what is right.

What really happens, is by the time they spend 20,000 on a trailer and 50,000 on a truck to pull the trailer, there all tapped out and the horses pay the price. But hey, at least they look good hauling their 25.00 horses.

I hate the thought, but understand at the same time.
Too bad it's that way, but I won't lose no sleep because of it.

Encore-That is super sad and I have been in your shoes before. But for someone to say you'd get into trouble for putting your horse down, is bull-honky. As much as we love our pets, they are personal property and you can do whatever you please with them-especially when it comes to them being sick. I'm not berating you for not putting them down (please don't take it that way), but in the future you'll know what to do and to heck with the naysayers. But I've also had the feeling of false hope---

I had a horse go down last year with a liver infection that led to photo-sensitization and then to liver failure-A trip to UT, a dead horse and $4k later, I wish I would have just put him out of his misery...but hindsight is 20/20 right? :-(

Rukid-yeah that happens too... But I don't see that very often...most people that have those huge trailers and trucks have thousands of dollars worth of pony, crapping in the trailer LOL
