Like many others, i was born and raised in church. Every Sunday. My father is a preacher and my wifes grandfather is a pastor of a church. Both our familes are very religious. My wife and i both were saved on the same night. I was 16 and she 14. We continued to date and go to church together. Then we was married and continued again.

OK..here goes..long reply. About 4 years ago we move to TN. She soon started school and i started a new job. My job required me to work every other weekend. When i didn't work we would travel back home to see family and go to church. On the weekends i worked..she would travel home again. Soon i started missing and only went about once a month. Then it was once every couple months and then i stopped going. My wife continued to go. I just felt different for some reason. What i didn't realize was that i had allowed the devil to take over. He was in my head. I was on the wrong path very fast. It cost me alot. I almost lost my wife, distanced myself from my family and friends and was doing what i wanted. Putting myself first and not thinking about others. My life was a whirl wind out of control. But thankfully my wife never lost faith in the Lord or myself. Everyone kept telling me they was praying for me and i didn't understand why..i was fine. Or so i thought. I finally realized one day that i needed to be a man. Started talking to my father, her grandfather and we started going to see a christian marriage counselor.

Now things are kinda on track. My wifes working and we are moving back home. Shes making more money than i ever thought about. Soon i'll be quiting my job. You see, she makes enough to support us (i will be finding another job) but in order to get right with the Lord and get our relationship back to where it needs to be we need to be home. I'm stepping out on faith and trusting that he will provide. Which i know he will. We are now going to church as often as we can. Usually every other weekend and soon to be every Sunday.

I guess the reason for the long post is this. Churches are made up of people just like me. Sinners. We are just forgiven by the grace of God. I've came to realize that without him, my life, my marriage, my family all means nothing. By putting God first the rest will fall into place. It doesn't matter what other church members think about me or my family. What matters is that we are close to God and are there to worship him. If they don't like what i'm wearing or where i've been. Then they need to look in the mirror also.

I hope you to can find the right church. Just go. Put God first and the rest will be there. Sorry for such a long post. I usually don't post at all, let alone something this long. But thats my story. I'll continue to pray for you and yours along with everyone on here. Just have faith.

Kinda in between churches right now and have visted a few but sad to say I haven't found one that I feel is doing what is expected of a church . I really miss the fellowship but can do without all the drama , just want to worship my Lord ! Pray that the Lord will lead me , THANKS !!

Try to be regular, b/c as pmt stated, God commands it. "Do not forsake the assembling together of yourselves." I don't make it every Sunday and that's a fact, but I know I need to go, and that I am supposed to according to God's Word. I would be nervous at any church b/c I'm not a public person, but I'm only there for one reason and one reason only, and that's to serve the Lord. That's how I try to see it, so I keep on keeping on. \:\)

As stated above, if you find a perfect church don't join it because it won't be perfect anymore.

My criteria for being a part of a church are:
1. Is the Word of God presented in its entirety? Most of the "feel good" churches only teach the parts that talk about God's blessings. God's blessings are real and wonderful, but talking about them exclusively doesn't help people who are experiencing hard times or struggling with sin in their lives.
2. Is the church true to God's mission of reaching out to the unsaved? I have gone to churches before that were essentially self-contained - the services and activities were very regimented and for the members only, with some token money being sent to mission projects just to make the members feel like they were doing their part for evangelism.
3. Are MOST of the members / attenders actively participating in the mission and activities of the church? Even in the "best" churches, there will always be a few who are just there because it is the "right" thing to do, but if a church is dead in works because the people themselves are spiritually dead, I do not want to be a part of it.
4. Is everyone welcome? If someone new comes to a service that doesn't "look" like everyone else, are they given a cold shoulder or are they welcomed and made to feel a part of the church family and what is going on?

Right or wrong, those are the some of the things I feel that I need to be a part of a church. I have found these things in the church I and my wife attend, and I consider it to be an essential part of who I am and what I do. Will there be some times when disagreements occur? Sure, it is a church family, and just like every family there will be things that crop up. How they are handled tells a lot about whether or not a church is focused on God and if the members are in His will.

I don't miss not going hunting or fishing or whatever on Sunday morning while in church, because I am right where I want and need to be.

I go to church every day, 24 hours a day. I believe in the goodness of man and what has been provided for us. There are to many religions and beliefs for me to conclude that one churches philosophy is correct. I dont beleive in mans interpretation of what is written by man. God is within us and gives us direction and the lienancy(?) to make mistakes as long as we overcome them.

Someday I will go to a church, as long as I can wear jeans and boots.

My problem isn't with the church community, but the doctrine.

I grew up in a fantastic church community, where my family was very comfortable, and we all thrived. As I grew up and matured, I saw some strong disagreements with the doctrine of the Catholic church. I like that the focus of every service is exactly the same, and I enjoyed the ritualistic side of the worship. But as with any church, I found my problems with who might be giving the sermon on Sunday. The Catholic church, as a whole, is a very socially liberal organization. I cannot stand behind an organization that believes charity is the solution to all of life's problems, while ignoring the personal responsibility aspect of life. For instance, most Catholic priests were standing at the pulpit last year talking about how we needed Obamacare. Catholic organizations are constantly protesting executions. My other problems are the stupid little things like not eating meat on Fridays during Lent. Some stuff seemingly has no biblical basis.

But I don't apreciate the hard-line conservative churches either that like to pick and choose their Bible passages to suit their personal beliefs. Finding a church is easy, but finding a doctrine to fall in line behind is difficult. I am of the opinion that the churches have ruined spirituality to a large extent.
