Ruger's other post got me started... I hope a thread like this has not been already posted...

I haven't flown an RC plane in at least a couple years, but I want to get back into it in the worst way. Putting extra money towards hunting and fishing have kept me from buying the necessary parts to complete this semi-scale C-130 that I built over 2 years ago:

I just traced, cut, glued the foam parts together and put in 2 motors... It barely flew with 2 motors. This plane needs 4 motors, a bigger battery, and a new transmitter because I think my old one is shot. So far the only thing I have bought to finish building the plane is the propellers.

I need to drop another $40 on motors, $25 for the battery, $30 for a new transmitter. It will be worth it when I finally finish this plane and send it into the air again. It has been hanging on my ceiling for the past 2.5 years and I look at it often thinking, when the heck am I going to put aside the money for it. Maybe this thread could get me a bit motivated. ;\)

I also have an old 4 channel heli that needs a lot of parts replaced before it can fly again.

Who else has some RC plane/heli experience they want to share?

Just wondering insteading adding 2 more motors on it, what about putting a couple of bigger motors on?

We had a guy that came to one of our fly-in's and he built planes like this. They flew great to!

I have a JR 2.4 radio and can fly all my planes with just the one TX, just have to buy the RX to go into the planes.

Get - R - Done and post pictures of it in the air.

Allen

It needs 4 motors because the real C-130 is a four engine airplane. Wouldn't be right with just two ;\)

You all are already making me want to git r done even more now. Then I can have pics and aerial videos to post here and brag

As for the Tx I am just going to get another 72mHz because that's the Rx I have in the plane, don't want to spend the extra money on a new 2.4 Rx and Tx, trying to keep it affordable for now. A 2.4 conversion is a possibility for the future though.

Here is a couple of my Planes.

This a Giant U Can Do 3-D. It has a 4 hp gas motor, and is my favorite plane to fly.

This is my son laying under the wing of my 35% Carden Edge. It has a 10 hp gas motor, and a 104" wing span. I've never been able to get comfortable flying it because of the $ I have in it.

Pretty cool! My Dad was really into R/C planes back in the 50's and 60's. He actually designed and built some of the first R/C systems in the late 50's, the old reed receiver Min-X systems. No proportional control then - you had buttons you pushed on the transmitter, and the faster/more times you pushed the button, the larger the servo movement. Generally two channels, for rudder and elevator, but he did build a few with 3 channels so you could add ailerons or motor speed. You couldn't have too many channels because you couldn't simultaneously control that many buttons, not like the joystick transmitters that came along in the mid 60's. The planes had to be big to carry all the hardware - wet cell NiCad batteries and the electronics (of course that was before IC's and such). I still have a bunch of his old equipment and even some of his planes and plane kits from back in the 60's in the attic. Stick built balsa wings and fuselages were covered with silk, and "doped". Sure brings back some childhood memories!

I was never much into planes for myself - I was into R/C boats. I still have a few, including a 40" long hydroplane that really screams with a water cooled 60 size engine.

8 points, that's one big 3d plane. Would love to see it fly. If I did a 3d plane it would be a small electric one made of EPP to withstand some of the crashes

woodchuck... the buttons on the Tx sounds terrible lol, but I'm sure it was totally cool back when they first came out. The technology never keeps moving, it seems that my plane with 72mhz and brushed motors is already a little out of date.

I have been flying since I was 13. All I fly now is 3D. I have had 100cc and 50cc 3D birds. Never been really scared to get them down on the Deck. Nowadays I don't have to get to the field so all I have is 25 and up to 60 size profile planes. I fly them around the house or at the school yard when I have time to sneek off. I have also pretty much gone all electric and I am serously thinking of converting my 60 size primo and mojo to electric along with my Lamyak 40 profiles.

This is the type of flying I do. Not quit as good as this guy but i can do most of what he can. I meet Andy at the PRO BRO in nashville a few years ago awesome guy.

If anyone is around Liepers Fork this last weekend of September 22 through the 25th go out and check out the PROBRO event there. They have night flying and their is always some awesome 3D pilots there. It is a blast also. It is unlike any other fly in or get together i have ever been to. Especially during the iron man competition.

Leave the two motors in place and just claim it's a C-123 or a C-160.

Heck no man! \:D It wouldn't be right. The Herc is one of my favorite planes, next to the C-5 galaxy...

oh crap...

I just gave myself an idea like a virus... now I'm going to have to build a C-5 too. OK I will build just the plane, and leave it in storage for a long time till I have the money for the electronics to put inside.
