I've got to go under the knife tomorrow to have an umbilical hernia taken care of.

About an hour surgery, should be home by noon....

It hasn't been a problem so far, but I better get it taken care of before it does.

piece of cake...lol.

I'll take some pics....I know how you guys just love pics....lol.

I developed one myself a couple months ago. It's not nearly as painful as the lower one I had back in the 90's.

Let me know how it goes and I'll decide if/when I'll have mine repaired.

I had that done myself about 20 years ago. One word of caution. Do not, and I mean do not watch a funny movie while you are lying on the couch when you come home from the same day surgery!!!! Laughting is not a good thing to do after the painkillers wear off!

The wife has had 4 done so far and is going to have to have another one. They are looking at maybe doing some kind of band on her, since it never seems to hold for her. She had to have her appendix removed while she was pregnant and the muscle is very weak.

Good luck BH. I've heard that they can be very serious, or at least that's what my Dr told me when I had hernia surgery back in '02. Gir-r-dun. ;\)

Let me know how it goes. I have one that has been going on for 2 years now. My doc told me not to worry about it but my wife keeps telling me to get it taken care of. I had a lower hernia when I was a baby (43 yrs ago).

I didn't have my reading glasses on when I first read the thread title and I thought it said "Unbiblical Hernia". LOL!!! That had me scratching my head! Will be praying for you.

got it done, not much of an issue.

In some pain today and will be for a few days, or that's what I was told.

Barely made it upstairs to get on here this morning, but hey, I gotta get my fix...lol!!

As I type this, I'm looking at a bottle of 50 vicadin and trying not to take any.

I guess I've taken this whole three year sobriety deal too seriously...lol.

I've always had a pretty stout threshold for pain, but I may need one or two, we'll see.

Everything went well and I'm recovering....thanks for the thoughts.

CL- get it done in a timely fashion.

I let one go for a year and it gradually got about the size of a golf ball. Out patient surgery turned into 6 follow up visits because when they stuffed my intestine back in it left a void. This void had to be drained 24/7 until it filled in with tissue. I had to stick 12" of sterile wick in this thing, leaving about 2" out, allowing it to drain- had to do this 2x a day and on top of that had to wear 6x6 gauze bandages over the area and be on antibiotics for 5 weeks.

Get it done, dude.

Mine was not hurting me at all, never did. I've had it about two years. the surgeon told me after the surgery that the hole in my muscles was very small, smaller than he had thought. he couldn't even stick a finger through it...so, he did not use the mesh screen, and merely stitched it up.....

I got lucky, I guess...

I'll be off a week or maybe two. I have to go see him June 6th, I think....

Just a heads up, if it is hurting at all, GO NOW. These things can get BAD!!!

good luck

Still plenty of pain going on around here....

If you have this done, expect plenty of pain while moving around or getting in and out of bed.....

Actually, i got off pretty luckily.

My hernia was not exactly what they expected. the tear in my muscle was not even large enough to stick your finger through and the stuff poking through was not intestines but fatty material. *Insert joke here*.

They simply stitched the tear and stitched the outer skin where they went in and bandaged it up. There still is a lot of pain due to the intrusive nature of the surgery.

if this hurts this much, I'd hate to ever get stabbed with a knife...!!

Tired of sitting at home though....

How long will you be off work with all the surgery? My day is coming, but I just wanted to know what to expect. I don't have a strenuous full time job, but I do own 17 vending machines at 9 locations, which does require a lot of lifting of cases of drinks.

There was no time table set by the doctor.

I am due back to see him on June 6th. he told me to use some common sense, lol. I decided that I would try to take it easy until the pain was gone and then not life too heavy of stuff like ext. ladders and stuff like that until I get the "go ahead" from the doctor.

he did say that for the first week or so, or at least while the pain was obvious, to not pick up anything over 5 lbs.. Not a problem as long as my wife is at home. She makes going to the bathroom alot more fun...sorry, I just couldn't let that one slip by...

Seriously, once I can get around , bend over and such, without any pain, I'm going back to work...paint cans don't weigh too much, imo.

Like I said before, my hernia wasn't as big of a deal as some...the hole in the muscle was very small and no intestines were hanging out, just some fat...*insert fat joke here...lol.

There still is some pain but it's getting less and less every day. I took some pain pills for the first day, then put them down.

I can't wait to get back to normal activities....

thanks

Don't wait too long. I have no idea what your circumstances are or the extent of your hernia, but some of these things can get dangerous...

My grandmother almost died with one after she kept putting it off and it got strangulated...

good luck
