I usually wait until around mid May to plant the most of my veggies. The temps are going to be in the 50's for the highs and then down near 40 for the lows. Are these temps too cool for the plants? Should I wait until it warms up again to plant these tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, etc?

It's ridiculously cold right now but the ground should be warm enough, as long as the cold only lasts another couple days.

I would preferably plant before May, in late April, but this year and last year I had to wait a couple weeks due to rain, flooding, cold, etc.

Maybe wait a little longer for the peppers, but honestly I would be fine putting them all in the ground at this point even if it gets a little cool.

Odds are anything short of a good heavy frost won't do much if any damage. Then again, neither will waiting a bit longer.

My plants won't hit dirt until late next week.

I too am waiting until this cool spell passes before I put my warm weather plants in the ground. Another week certainly will not hurt.

Well the problem is once this cool spell passes it's going to be right back up to the mid 80's which is tough on just-planted items. I think I'll set out half today and half next week.

Historically ihave always planted the weekend closest to tax day (April 15th). However, this year, I planted mid March with the intention of planting again in late June - early July. I am doing this to try and extend my harvest as long as possible.

I am already picking Squash and Zuchinni..... \:\) I did lose 1 plant to frost but that was it so far. I also waited a few weeks later to plant the beans once the soil temp came up. However, there are a lot of things that you can plant early.... and you can also start plants indoors as well.

Long story short... go ahead and put it in the ground...

the ground temps are good and warm even now. I had my hands in the dirt over the weekend, you could noticeably tell the difference. My germination on sweet corn was only 6 days.

This recent cool/wet weather was a good time to do some transplanting.
