I finally broke down and started changing my bad upper ball joints and front and rear brakes this morning. 4 hours later and ripped up and mashed pinky finger I got them done. Then have to take it and get ot lined up in the morning. I guess I save a few hundred bucks doing it myself. My step dad started to teaching me how to work on vehicles when I was around 14 and I wish he was still here because he would griping about how greasy I was getting his tools( he was a neat freak).

What was wrong with the upper ball joints? Did you have to replace the whole upper control arm, or could you just get ball joints and what kind of vehicle, if you don't mind my asking?

Either way, good for you to do it yourself. Very dangerous work and requires expertise and patience.

03 f150 4x4 Uppers are all one piece with the ball joint in the control arm. I had a boot busted on one and was getting some vibration and a few pops here and there. Im running a 315/75/16 tire with a 5" lift so there gonna be rough on front end parts. And of course the ones I pulled out were not greasable.

They dont make a greasable one that you can replace by drilling out rivets on old ball joint and install the new one in the old control arm with hardened bolts? Save some good change that way too. Is how we used to do it on mustangs and cougars.
