Thanks for posting this Bambi.

I knew Kevin and Kyle....they were twins. We grew up together and played football together throughout high school. Their family was VERY nice and always welcoming. All the football players went to their house on Fridays before football games to eat and hang out before hand because they lived right next to the field. Both of them had the biggest hearts and would do anything for anyone. I have let Kyle know that I will do anything to help that I can. I havent seen Kevin in quite a while but know that if we saw each other today, it would be just like old times. He really is a true american hero.

Please continue to pray for his family.

My thanks to your son for being a patriot and to you for having raised one.

Several of my friends who have been and are currently deployed are in many ways like the sons I never had. Sweating through their deployments is not easy. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be if they were my own flesh and blood. Our nation owes much to the parents and families of those who defend us.

I did not know Sgt Balduf, but we had several mutual friends including one high school classmate/Marine who is taking it partciularly hard. Good for you for being there for Kyle.

This one is almost certainly even more tragic, futile and in vain than you may imagine. More when I have confirmation.

I now have confirmation. Sgt Balduf and another Marine were shot down in cold blood by one of "our Afghan partners."

2 Marines killed in Afghanistan

A Marine lieutenant colonel and sergeant have died in Afghanistan in what appears to be a shooting by an Afghan policeman.

Lt. Col. Benjamin Palmer, 43, and Sgt. Kevin Balduf, 27, died Thursday in Helmand province, Pentagon officials said Monday. No additional details about their deaths were initially available, but U.S. military officials in Kabul announced Friday that two service members were killed that day in southwestern Helmand after a member of the Afghan National Civil Order Police, or ANCOP, shot them in a police compound.

“While this is a serious incident, the actions of this individual do not reflect the overall actions of our Afghan partners,” said Marine Maj. Gen. James Laster, the International Security Assistance Force’s deputy chief of staff for joint operations. “We remain committed to our partners and to our mission here.”

Palmer was assigned to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2, out of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. Balduf was assigned to 8th Communications Battalion, out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. Balduf’s remains arrived Saturday at Dover Air Force Base, Del., Air Force officials said.

Additional details about the Marines’ duties were not immediately available. Palmer served last year in Afghanistan as the commander of 2nd Low Altitude Defense Battalion, out of MCAS Cherry Point, N.C. He was replaced in a ceremony at Cherry Point in December after the unit’s deployment ended, according to a Marine news release. The battalion served downrange as a provisional infantry security force.

Totally unacceptable.

God Bless our troops and their families.

This sort of incident is far more common than most Americans realize (or care). Sgt Balduf is the 3rd Tennessean that I know of to die at the hands of our "partners." There are probably others. Yet we continue to accept the unacceptable.
