if the govt takes all the oil companys proffits the oil companys will go somewhere else just like so many AMERICAN jobs. who will make your gas and what will that gas cost?

I never seen people take up for the oil companies so much in all my life.
I have never seen so many people without a basic understanding of economics..... 
Companies have one purpose for existence. To make a profit. Aren't each and every one of us "companies" unto ourselves? Aren't our wages "profits" ? Whats wrong with that?
Everyone is so eager to be led by the nose and join the anger and hate bandwagon as advocated by the media, political parties, unions, or whatever group we associate ourselves with, or slogan that catches our eye.
Whatever happened to gathering facts and thinking for ourselves?
If we want to be cheesed off at the price of gas, you should FIRST know what all goes into the price of gas. Know how much each component is costing us BEFORE we jump on the self righteous wagon train and lend support and power to groups who are using us as stooges.
Take away oil company profits on a gallon of gas and guess what? you saved .02 per gallon. You can save .02 per gallon by looking up gas station prices online and driving a couple extra miles. Wooooopie!
If you want to be informed instead of a stooge, learn about "quantitative easing" and how it is eroding the value of the dollar. Learn how that is making the price of gas and food go up. BUT NOOOOoooooooooo! That would take some effort.
Might have to read a few articles. Might have to read a book or three. Might have to THINK and ask a few questions. OMG! I might miss Idol!
Yeesh. YES gas prices are high for many reasons. YES is is creating a harsh burden for most Americans.
Do some investigating and find out what is causing the LARGE increases in price. Then see who you are mad at.
Exercise your minds.

Who are you mad at FB? 
Not mad at anyone. People need to wake up, turn off the TV and start using their minds.
Nobody is entitled to respect for a stupid opinion that is poorly thought out or worse....not thought out at all.
Its too easy to catch the latest headlines and form an opinion. Its also lazy and irresponsible. Another form of gossip.

I think I see what's going on. It's the same song and dance that comes up every few months. If you've ever owned your own company, you'd understand. When there is a commodity involved, like oil, the market is influenced by everything worldwide, every minute of every day. If you think I'm wrong, cash out your 401k where 50% of "big oil" is owned and buy just big oil stock. Nothing else. Now see how long you can hold on without losing your shirt. You should be mad at your utility company, cell phone company, insurance company and internet service provider instead. With the amount you're being gouged by them, you should get some fuel cost relief.

I agree 100%.
Fishboy, back in 2008 we had to play the SAME GAME with these people that don't do any real research but just have uninformed opinions. Back then I saved several gas threads on here to my harddrive and when I got a new coumpter I saved them to CD's and I still have them today. Since they were not PM's but OPEN THREADS on the General Forum I can post them here again, it should be fun to see what has NOT changed in a little over 3 years. The SAME PEOPLE blamed one single man and the big oil companies for the worlds oil prices. Now that man is not in office any more they just blame the oil companies.
Some say the oil companies and sevice stations are price gouging but in truth some of the biggest price gougers are guys that mow yards. When gas prices went up they INCREASED their prices and told their customers it was because of the gas. When gas went down they did NOT come down on theiur prices. Again this year those same people used the same excuse to RAISE THEIR PRICES and now they hope the price of gas will drop so they can MAKE RECORD PROFITS!!!

I'm more cheesed off at the government for robbing us blind at every turn.
Sure a lot of people think "ha ha! I hardly pay any Federal Income taxes ! Lets stick it to the other guy ! "
Then they go buy a tank of gas and pay .48 per gallon to the federal govt.
They buy bread and pay increased prices to cover the federal taxes the bread company has to pay to the Federal Government.
They buy ANYTHING and have to pay increased prices to cover the inflation our government is creating to cover their irresponsible spending habits.
Then they complain and moan about the private companies who are struggling to stay open. They complain that they are loosing their jobs when their employer has to lay off workers just to stay open.
Meanwhile the Federal Government not only keeps on spending, they INCREASE spending (and taxes). Wooo hooo! Lets keep this big frat party going!
If you do some research and run some numbers, you will find that the Federal Income Tax has become a red herring (diversion). The real money is in all the hidden additional Federal Taxes that EVERYONE pays without realizing it.
Cellphone tax
Land line phone tax
Internet tax
Gas tax
business taxes
Environmental impact taxes
Advance disposal fee
The list is enormous and most of us have no idea how much Federal,state, and local taxes are hidden in the price of everyday stuff.
When the economy slows down and WE all have to cut our spending, the government simply increases those hidden taxes, plus they inflate the currency so the dollar buys less further increasing prices of stuff WE pay for. That way they can keep on spending and running up our credit cards without us noticing.
Doesn't matter what party you belong to. We are ALL getting royally screwed on a daily basis.
