Friday night, my wife and I watched a movie called CONVICTION. It is based on the true story of a man that was wrongly accused of a murder and the long fight that his sister undertook to try to free him from prison.
I won't spoil it for you , in case you want to watch it.
After the movie, during the credits, a statement was posted on the screen. SINCE 1989, (the beginning of DNA testing) 274 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN EXONERATED AFTER THEY WERE FOUND GUILTY AND SENT TO PRISON, MANY FOR LIFE AND SOME WERE EVEN ON DEATH ROW.

It's pretty interesting stuff.
The sad thing is that before DNA testing, innocent people spent their lives in prison and some were put to death.
The justice system is not what it should be in this country. Too many egos and politics involved....sad.

There is a fault that will always be present in our justice system. It's people being people. While you can't help but feel for those that are in prison, or have been,that shouldn't be, 274 out of the tens of thousands isn't like most other countries. That is, unless you're one of them. Our system is far from perfect but I'm not aware of one that is better.

Haven't you beat this dead horse before.....???? 
I'm sure since Barry Scheck is over this program and helped twist the DNA evidence in the O.J. trial (dream team/scheme team).... We need to really give this some deep thought.... I'm sure O.J. is one of the 270 innocent individuals.... I guess you can make your own opinion on the subject and stats....

It doesn't mean all the people that were released were innocent, it only means that some of the evidence they used to convict them was incorrect!!!! I would like to know the real stats!

Our system is the best in the world, that is a fact. There are several countries that once you are found guilty and sentenced to daeth that person is dead within 24 hours.
Our system is based on the law and OTHER HUMANS SETTING IN JUDGMENT OF OTHERS.
It has to be that way. We are humans and we HAVE to have other humans judge us, we make errors but that is one of the very things that make us human. Look at DNA testing, before that came out MILLIONS of people worldwide were put to death for their crime, were they gulity or innocent?? Who knows? But they were judged by other humans.
Take DNA again, look how far that has come. Other new and better things will soon be coming into our court system. Those things will NOT fail and be 100% true just like DNA testing only BETTER.
The day will come when we do away with the jury system and depend 100% on on all this new stuff, MACHINES. They WILL take away the HUMAN ERROR out of our court system. From then on every single person is either guilty or innocent, no middle ground, no gray area.
We will not see it in full in our lifetimes but our Grandchildern could. Is that what you want for your grandchildern? NO HUMAN JURY WITH NO HUMAN ERROR. As much as we want to believe "OUR FAMILY MEMBERS" do NOT do any crime, the cold hard truth is SOME DO.
Do you want to leave your grandchildern to face a MACHINE WITHOUT ANY HUMAN JUDGMENT to decide if they are guilty or innocent???

What it means is that the DNA found at the crime scene did NOT come from the person arrested and charged.
Without sufficient evidence and if the blood, hair, skin , etc. at the crime scene IS NOT the person arrested, then that pretty much tells me that they are innocent.
I'd like to know the real stats about how many people were put to death or spent their entire lives in jail that were innocent....

OJ got his just dues, even if he did not go to jail for murder. Many here seem to scoff at the lost of human freedom and human life, yet many here argue over their freedoms here on a daily basis. funny.
I'm all for the innocent getting out of jail, you should be too.

Red herring at best. Every case is (or at least, should be) tried based on the totality of the evidence available. Just because DNA evidence is for another person does not mean the suspect was not there - it just means someone else was there at some time as well.
Only on television shows is DNA evidence absolute, and available at every crime scene.
