I saw the smart phone app thread and got me thinking. Y'all that are tryin to lose weight or "be healthier" check out this app for the iphone (not sure about android)...It's called "my fitness pal" helps you keep track of calories taken in and burned pretty neat. Once you start seeing just how many calories are in some of the food you eat it makes you change your tune pretty quick I tried that app, one thing I noticed. Many of the caloric database is built on user contributions. My can of ravioli might be 200 calories different the one they want me to plug into my daily journal. It got frustrating.
I quit that app and went back to my notebook. Handwritten was actually faster. Plus by now, I know in my head the caloric values for most things I eat.

And you can never, never, never go wrong with a slice of cantaloupe. They are so friggin good... and healthy. I could eat a whole one any time. That's why a good portion of my garden has cantaloupes (and honeydew) planted. Nothing better. I'll bring a pocket knife and eat one right in the garden sometimes.
Throw a big gob of cottage cheese on them too...good and good for you.

Everyone else does it. It's hard to isolate yourself from it because it's a lifestyle for everyone around you and you are also used to it. This is probably one of the best statements here. If you are truly serious about getting fit and eating healthy, you HAVE to make it a lifestyle (unless you are one of the few gifted by God). My wife and I catch so much he!! from our friends when we do not conform to their eating/drinking preferences at parties, BBQs, etc. Do not get me wrong, my wife and I can eat as many BBQ sandwiches and donuts as anyone on here, but we choose not to most of the time. We follow a pretty strict eating regiment between Jan-Sep, with her doing a lot better than myself (she has will power like no other). We tend to relax our eating habits Oct-Dec so we can enjoy some of the great food offered at Thanksgiving, Xmas etc. The point here is you will always have friends and family that do not understand why you are making those health conscience decisions and they will belittle you many times when you do not conform to their ways/beliefs/etc. We have just learned to deal with it and keep working to reach our own self imposed goals while not imposing our goals on others. My .02

You are correct Ruger, all carbs are NOT created equal, but that point has already been beat to death above.
IF I can leave off the simple carbs, I lose weight very easily. That being said, it is very important for us to eat complex carbs.
For me, portion control and no late night (simple carb) snacking is the key.
I have lost 18 pounds in the last 15 days. This has taken VERY strict control for me (I love to raid the freezer/frig at 9 or 10 pm).
Over the past two weeks my diet has been: 4 power pancakes each morning w/ Water Apple, medium size around 10 AM 5 wings, with green beans and a side salad for lunch Apple, around 4 PM as snack 5 more wings or 1/3 pound of Roast Beef (deli cut thin) and a spinach salad, green beans. Drink tons of water all day long.
Also, have done the Insanity Workout for the last two weeks as well.

last year i lost 30 pounds in 17 weeks by cutting back on how much i ate per meal and i walked at a brisk pace for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 in the evening. about 1.5 miles each time. instead of 2-3 plates of food i ate 1 plate. we never stopped eating what we liked, just the amount
