Killed a water moccasin in my dog kennels today. I live on the bank of the Forked Deer River, and with all the flooding the snakes are going to high ground. One of my labs was barking and looking up, and there it was, on top of the fence. Lucky none of my dogs got bit. I HATE SNAKES!!! Keep your eyes open guys especially if you live close to water.

No, it's perfectly OK to say killed in that situation. Glad you shot it before there was a problem.

Ahhemm. I'll go ahead and say it before our herpetologists on the board. It was probably a Banded Water Snake. Dang, I feel dirty.





rabbit-hunter, glad there is one less in the world. I don't have them around my house, but I've had them in the boat with me before. Makes for some major boat shrinkage, among other things.

I disagree, probably a Northern Water Snake. But if he says it was a Cotton mouth thats what it was they are in that area. No reason not to believe someone that lives where cotton mouths actually have a breeding population unlike east of Nashville.
