I was working in the garden yesterday and heard a yelp from my wifes little nasty yap dog.
Go up in the woods and it's laying there whining. At this point I thought it had broke its leg because it was holding it tight against its body.
Take it to the vet, by the time I get there the whole leg had swollen up like a balloon. They shave the leg and find the puncture wounds at the hock.
At any rate, the swelling continued to the point where the skin started splitting open. They gave steroids and it went home.
This AM swelling down about 25%, eating and drinking.
For what it's worth, I really don't like the dog but I gotta give it some credit for shaking this one off.
I'll try and get some pictures of the leg posted.

We put our lab in the basement{cool} the second day after she took a bite to her snout from a copperhead and the swelling was gone in a few hours.

Our 12 year old cat got bit by something a couple weeks ago. He was really sick and hardly moved or ate for a couple of days. Vet gave us some antibiotics and he was fine in about a week. It got him on the hip, swelled up pretty big. I did run over a copperhead just outside the yard fence a day after he got bitten, but not positive that's what bit him.

same here, wife had this 'Benji' dog when we first got married. The mutt was a snake hunter. Was bitten more than twice that knew of by snakes. One for sure was a copperhead. We killed on the patio right he shook it like a rag doll and it bite him.
he'd swell up, go missing for couple days, then show back up.
we never fooled with the vet.

We had an old boxer when I was little that used to bring snakes home just about every day from his adventures. He was finally killed by a swarm of bees after surviving no telling how many snake bites.
