usanglure- Thanks for info.
The cracks are all the way around the in-side edge of the side walls right next to the rim and these arent the result of the Silcone based Tire Shineing products as I don't use the stuff.nor wheeel cleaners. While I do use a tire shine product it dosn't have any of the bad things like silicone that casuses cracks. I've been useing the Meguiars Gold Class Endurance for several years no other tires that is has been used has fromed the Cracks. These are close to 3 years old with a bit over 16K on them.
As the Difference Bewtween Mich an Coopers.-
Right now there is No Contest the Mich hands Down even if there made by the commie frenchies. BTW these are USA Made Coopers,no complaints however on the ride and tread ware to date.
I haven't as yet found the date code if they have one nor got with Cooper.

the Michelins will dry rot also, I put a set of the very best michelins on my X5 in March 2008, I had to replace them about 2 months ago because they had dry rotted and had numerous pin hole leaks, these tires only had 38000 miles on them

Yes, I had the same thing happen to a set of CrossTerrains. Worthless piece of junk tires.
Best tire I've ever had are BFGoodrich Long Trail T/A Tour tires. I have 88K miles on them and have about 3 months left at the rate I drive.

I've gone thru 2 sets of Dunlop Radial Rovers (had the truck for nearly 10 years now) I get about 4 years out of them with no dryrot at all.
Just checked the DOT numbers on mine and it reads- DOT PJCU 78HR

Hog Bear good info..... carlos look on other side of tire the last 4 of dot will only be on one side (numeric digits) Guys as a tire dealer i've sold em all over the years. Bridgestone/Firestone, Michelin, Gooodyear, Bfg(subsidary of michelin) Kelly(sub of goodyear) dayton(sub of firestone) yokahama, dunlop(sub of goodyear), general, toyo, 100's of jap, chinese, korean, german, etc. They all make low, mid, and high end tires...... Go with what you like mileage, tread, or quietness or traction or combination. I run Goodyear Duratracs great wet traction on pavement, great traction in mud, noisey (young crowd seems to like this), seems to be low on mileage so far. Michelins give you mileage generally, bfgs too. Shop get what you like and a dealer you can deal with even when there are problems..... Each individual is different small dealer or big box store. GOOD LUCK

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11&
Thanks for the info.
While I will have to look on tthe backside again to double check things,I didn't see a number code like the frist one in the above link. I did find one like the second on the front and rear of the set in question ---
From the front of the tire small blocks- [DOT UPWS] [C5N] then a good spceing and smaller letters Design # 9861 30831-5 R-23030 LT265/75/16 Which I assume is is the design/model code/ssn #'s and everyone should know the last one Type an Size dia./size in width/ and size rim it fits.
