Apparently the medical staff who make predictions have not previously experienced how ornery a cuss Jeff can be. The prognosis remains that time could be quite short, and the hospice nurse did not expect him to weather through last night. HOWEVER! Jeff is still hanging in there. Lasix (sp?) is pulling some fluids off where his kidneys have not been functioning well. He is still lying with eyes unable to open, somewhat labored breathing, non-responsive.
HOWEVER...
Sunday night, when told that Osama had been taken out, he raised a thumb up! Granted, there could be speculation as to which influential leader's name he actually heard, but it was great to hear he was listening and understanding.
I went up this morning and read pages of printed prayer request responses from TNDeer's forums, identifying each post by name, not knowing if he could hear it or grasp it, but reading it just the same. When I was finished, Jeff's wife was smiling and pointed to his monitors and said, "He was listening to all of that; his heart rate was responding!"
While I had his attention, I leaned in and told him that TNDeer would be taking care of his daughter for him, so he didn't have to worry about it. Visited with the family for a while, then held Jeff's hand and head and prayed for him.
I'll post a "How to Help" thread for those who are wanting to assist Jeff's daughter, who lost her home in last week's storms.
Sometimes praying for a miracle doesn't result in the kind of finish WE think is appropriate. Sometimes the miracle is much more subtle, perhaps as subtle as one more day, and the clarity to hear and understand the family gathered close by.
