Ok I have a block building behind my house that used to be a dog kennel. It has a double sliding door in the back that I am going to take out and put some swinging doors. The bottom of the door is about 3ft off the ground and I need to build a ramp for pulling in the mowers and 4 wheeler. I have a lot of railroad crossties that were given to me. I need to figure out how to make a ramp out of them since they were free. Any advice would help Thanks.

I would try to stack them up in a triangular pattern and then cut the corners off at a 35-45 degree angle where you have a flat surface to screw 3/4 inch plywood down for your ramp. I would build a back brace to keep the tall side from shifting by digging 3-4 holes and fill with concrete and placing 4x4's in the holes to the needed height for support.

You could stack 3-4 against the building and then turn the rest the other way to make a ramp. Make sure to lag bolt or screw them together. You could even place another at the end of the ramp to keep them even at the bottom.
