I've noticed, with all this water in the ground that my septic system isn't working as well as it should be. I use the RID X every month . The last time I had it cleaned out was about two years ago.

It is my thought that since the ground is so saturated, the field lines are having a bit of trouble emptying and so the water is slow to drain from the tank.

it doesn't help that my wife takes 30 minute showers, lol.

Nothing is backup or anything like that but sometimes I can hear the system gurgling and a few days ago during the BIG RAIN, the drains seemed a bit slow.

At this point, I'm just hoping that I don't end up with crap in my kitchen sink.....lol.

So goes life in the flatlands.....

the crap will show up in the shower or tub first. it sounds just like you said that the drain field is saturated. you can replace it and put new gravel bed in but that is expensive. good luck

Unless your field lines and property as a whole are in "crawfish ground" I wouldn't blame the rain too much. Most likely if your system is ten years old or more, it might be a
good time to pump your tank. Ridx is a waste of expense-not entirely necessary.

If you've got gravel and 4" perf pipe and it's gurling, you might be getting "slimed over" with an active anerobic bacteria colony living in the field lines. A Terra-Lift might open up the ground a bit an get some oxygen in the soil to reverse this.

Get a reputable expert to give you more advice or contact TN Div of Grounwater Protection for some answers. They may operate out of your county bldg & codes dept.

I would just say your full o shat! but I wouldn't want you to take offence!! \:D
I haven't had any problems out of mine in over 30 years....
A septic tank works on two principles as I understand it...living bacteria within the tank itself and surface evaporation thru your field line...anything that effects the operation or efficiancy of either will give you problems...
You guys have had alot rain out that way for sure...

I have had two or maybe three different people pump my tank in the 18 years we have been here.

They all asked if I used RID X and one even suggested yeast.

Not sure if there is a problem with the system or just that with all the rain we have had the water soaked into the ground and it would seem to me that (much like a sponge) once the ground gets full, it just won't absorb as fast.

I'll keep an eye on it.

I don't put any toilet paper thru my system. I had my tank pumped about 15 yrs ago, and there was mostly toilet paper in it.

A mistake a lot of people make is using a lot of ant- bacterial soaps and detergents. When my brother stopped using them all of his problems stopped. He pours a gallon of buttermilk in once a month. It is cheaper than rid-x and seems to be working.
