This kids in class got in trouble for talking. I know others were to but he is the one I decided to discipline. Am I picking on him?

Somebodies gotta be the example. What's funny is my daughter came home yesterday saying the whole class was laughing at a kid acting stupid but the teacher busted her.
I told her if she had kept her mouth shut she wouldn't have been called out.

Things happen quickly when you are trying to get control of a class. It is difficult to always make the right decisions in the heat of the moment. The fact that you question yourself shows that it's important to you to be fair. I wouldn't beat yourself up to much over it. I would however make sure you keep that communication open with the youngster in question. Kids are pretty forgiving if they know you really care. It sounds like you do. good luck
