Got a chance to work on it a little this evening. I went back to the orignal and removed the water spots from the lens and adjusted the color some. The first was an auto fix from the software I was using. This one is pretty close to exactly what came off the camera. Looks better to me. I didn't realize how much color change was in the first from the original pic. Thanks for the comments.

How do you get pic of lightning. Lucky shot, string of shots on auto, movie mode and pick a frame, or be very very fast on the trigger?????

Auto White Balance
It's a pretty easy thing the way I do it... of course I am not a professional.
Set your camera up on a tripod. Use a wide focal length. I usually use near 20 but this one I was on 30. I had just moved positions and didn't move my focal length. My camera's lowest ISO setting is 100 so I use the lowest ISO. Aperture is your field of depth... I've tried different setting but for me, it usually gets the best picture around 7-8. I have some lower around 5 that turned out pretty well but I like the 7-8 range better. I used an Auto White Balance... not much experience with lightning using anything else yet. Shutter speed is how long the shutter stays open.
The easiest way I know to explain this... and it may make no sense or be exactly correct is... it holds the shutter open for around 30 seconds. What ever happens in that 30 seconds is burnt on the film (not really film since it's a digital camera) and the end result is a picture that was take over 30 seconds. This is why you must have a tripod and keep your camera still. If you get any movement, the picture will be a blur. If you get several lightning strikes in that 30 seconds your photo will show all of them. This photo was only one lightning strike. Some people use a remote shutter switch. I just use a delay of 2 seconds and the shutter value setting on the camera.
Some of the professionals on here can probably explain this better than I. I just point and shoot, the camera does the rest.

I will try setting like this for the next storm. Hope It don't for a while. We had a fast moving cell go over last weekend but no lightning. I made several pics but nothing of interest, hard to show just wind and swirling clouds.
