We've been to Folly Beach several times. It's not commercialized, it's laid back, & Charleston is only 7 miles away where you can get all the commercialism you want. Good surfing there. Not really a whole lot of stuff for kids to do though IMO, other than play on the beach. Didn't see any go-carts or goony golfs. I can't remember which Island that famous hammock shop is on, but it's a neat place to go & see all the different kinds of hammocks.

Go eat at Fleet Landing. It has indoor dining and outdoor dining looking out into the water. It's downtown, just don't remember exactly where. Also, if you want some non-Charleston food, hit up a Taco Boy.
