Thinking about going to the SC coast with the family in July for our annual summer/fishing trip. I have a large ongoing project in the Spartanburg area and currently drive down for monthly meetings with the city. Will probably just keep driving after the July meeting and head to the coast to get away.
We're thinking Charleston area, but open to ideas if you guys have any suggestions. Fishing charter is mandatory, inshore or offshore, so let me know if you guys know of someone reputable.
Oh, and good luck to you turkey hunters this weekend.

We have a house 15 miles outside of Charleston and will be going there shortly. If I can be of help let me know. We very seldon go downtown Charleston as there are plenty of places to eat and shop with out going down town.
I retired from military service there in 1973 and use to fish fresh and saltwater alot. However things have changed since then.

Been looking at Folley Island and Isle of Palms. Prefer the laid back thing rather than a tourist trap. Will look into Berts Market, thanks.

Will probably stay north or south side of Charleston and probably won't venture downtown. Just looking to do some more salt-water fishing and crabbing possibly for a week. 11 year old son wants to do one of those ghost tour things though after fishing........ we'll see.

Check out the Slave Market... or Charleston Market as some call it while you're down there. Also check out the Angle Oak. Both are worth spending a little time on. You can google both of them and get some info to see if it's something you and your family may be interested in.

Not sure if you son is into Pirates, but there's a restaurant, Daniel Island (maybe) called Queen Ann's Revenge, the food is so-so, but they have a ton of pirate stuff. Last summer while staying with friends on James Island, we crabbed and fished off a dock. Caught flounder and a few crabs.

Yeah, flounder and crab are on his list of things to do. He'd love the pirate thing too, no question. I know my wife would like the Charleston Market that Silver fox mentioned too.
Thanks again for the info guys, will research all of them more in the next few days when I get some down time.

My family and I used to visit Folly Beach. "Mayberry By the Sea". Very laid-back, with a good pier to fish from. I recommend taking a guided walking tour of Charleston if you like history.

there is no better grits or oysters in the world than in Charleston.I miss living on the beach, but Hurricane Hugo found it humorous to place our house in the middle of the Atlantic, so Ive only been since I was 12 a handful of times, but its awesome island

I'll second Edisto. We are going back at the end of July. Its a very family friendly place.
If you want the best shrimp and grits....you need to go to Hymans Seafood in downtown Charleston. I'm wanting to say that it was almost across the street from the slave market bldg.

I'm glad you started this as we are planning on visiting that area in May. I've heard a lot of good things about Edisto.
We lived in Bluffton when I was 8 and moved to Hilton Head when I was 10. Luckily we moved back home to TN right before Hugo hit.

If you like history you have to spend a day downtown. The market has been remodeled and they stopped selling most of the chinese junk. My mom use to sell stuff there on Saturdays and I grew up running around the place. As a kid we use to go to folley beach but now when we go back we go to the Isle of Palms. Have Fun.

My wife and I loved Folly Beach. It has a fishing pier, you can rent fishing poles and buy bait at the pier.
I don't remember the names of the restraunts we went to, but I think Gilligan's was good. Sticky Fingers is good for bbq. I think we went to a Forrest Gump's there. Regardless of where you go, get the she-crab soup if the restraunt has it on the menu. I loved it!
If you have time, go to Patriot's Point. It has an aircraft carrier, a Navy Destroyer, a submarine, and a Coast Guard Cutter. You can tour each vessel, go inside and look through them. It is pretty neat, and you could easily spend a whole day there.
Fort Sumter is also neat. It is where the first shot of the Civil War was fired. You will have to take a ferry from the mainland to the fort. Pretty neat and educational.
The Charleston Market downtown is pretty cool.
That's about all I can remember for now.

We've been to Folly Beach several times. It's not commercialized, it's laid back, & Charleston is only 7 miles away where you can get all the commercialism you want. Good surfing there. Not really a whole lot of stuff for kids to do though IMO, other than play on the beach. Didn't see any go-carts or goony golfs. I can't remember which Island that famous hammock shop is on, but it's a neat place to go & see all the different kinds of hammocks.

Go eat at Fleet Landing. It has indoor dining and outdoor dining looking out into the water. It's downtown, just don't remember exactly where. Also, if you want some non-Charleston food, hit up a Taco Boy.
