Sounds good, thanks...pulling siding off the house? that's not dumpster diving...it's stealing....although I admit I have looked through the houses in the past for scrap wood.

Going in a house uninvited is a BIG No-NO.
If I catch someone in one of our houses uninvited they get to sit on the front step and wait for the police. YES we press charges. Good way to get shot too.
Too much theft going on to give any leeway. "I was just looking for scrap wood" is the first excuse given as they load your copper pipes and tools in their 82' datsun pick up.
Im always on high alert going into a vacant house. Had a face off years ago with 2 clowns who were "just looking for scrap". One had a pipe in his hands and all I had was a clipboard. Turned out ok but could have been bad.

If it's not posted, it's still not ok. Kind of like seeing some land to hunt that's not posted. It's still tresspassing.

Sounds like a good way to get your ars in trouble, I'd take the time and ask 1st before you assume it's fare game because it still belongs to someone until it's hauled away. Sometimes some of the workers on the contruction site salvage the left overs and you don't want to get caught by some of those guys. This day and age I don't think it's a good idea to going into houses you don't have permission, but that's up to you.

Definately ask. Owners are often vandilized and stolen from so much that they will call the police if you dont ask first. Also they are afraid of being sued if someone gets hurt in the dumpster

Thanks all I will remember next time I need some scrap wood. Maybe go on a week day when they're working and ask someone on site?

Yep. Ask for the supervisor. He likely works for the owning company. The 'no habla' guys have no authority to grant permission for you to be on the site or remove anything.
I had one guy who would occasionally show up and ask. I told him he had 10 minutes and permission was only good for that one time, and don't make a mess.
Guy thanked me, got some scrap and left. Next time he came back he had a little plywood box on the back of his truck he made with the scrap.

I deliver sand to a lotta job sites and it kills me to see the good material they throw away, a guy could get enuff material over time to frame up a small room.
Sevral years ago I read a piece in the Chattanooga paper about a guy whos hobby was visiting car washes, vending machine areas and looking for change, he said that year alone he picked up (if I remember) $30,ooo in money people had dropped and not bothered to pick up or sucked up in the vacume cleaners at car washes.
I realize the insurence companies wouldnt allow it because ther afraid off get'n sued and loose'n a all mighty dollar but it looks like something could be arranged for some of this stuuf to be set aside for some one that could use it, especialy in this economy, maybe if they could work it off some how.

That was probably passed to help curb the crowd that was always gathered behind the Regas restaurant!...
