I used this last weekend. I took a sweet potato can (from thanksgiving) and bought a large can of sterno. When I got in my blind I lit it. Lasted about 4 hours. A little bit of smell until it was going good but then it was fine. Anyone else use this type of set-up?

Up here in Pa. and New York it sometimes gets a tad chilly.. When i am on stand i take a Dry wall bucket with lid.. cut the very center out..The little round part dead center.. Then i get one of those un-scented candles..The big one so it sits good.. light it and put top back on.. it will give you all the heat you need to stay comfortable for hours and no smell at all..have done that for years...

i have never used a sterno can before but i have used a roll of TP in a coffee can full of rubbing alcohol. The TP works as a wick and the alcohol burns clean and hot. Just don't knock it over...

I have used this method many times! Great way to stay warm in a blind and it is odorless too.

you can start with a sterno stove or a large candle and warm up soup , chili or coffee. just ventilate the larger can near the top . i have been using this trick for years. also take a burger pattie and layer potatoes and carrots and onion. doulble wrap with foil and when you get ready lunch. meal is called hobo delights.

I have heard (never tried it, though)that one can place a single charcoal briquette in a medium to large tin can and light the charcoal. It burns cleanly, no smoke/odor and will create a very useable heat source. The charcoal without lighter fluid would be harder to light, but no fuel smell.

Probably work good if not too cold, but I'm not sure how warm it will keep me in my blind when it's 5 degrees with a North wind? My small buddy heater with a new tank does the job for the weekend and I also made a deal so I can cook over the top of it.

Canadian guides have been using sterno for years in their blinds in sub zero temps. Most of them have you put one can under your chair and then drape a blanket across your lap & legs, thus trapping the heat.

I do wonder how many have caught the blanket on fire though....
