Well.....if I had a mind to do it (which I don't), I'd at least get permission before diving in.

Um id say no unless you have permission. Alot of construction sites actually take some of those dumpsters to salvage places and get some money for the contents. So in my opinion that would be stealing. Just ask first. I wouldn't hunt somebodys land without permission and I wouldn't dig through their trash with out it either!

when we were kids growing up in southern cal i built my first bike from parts i found in the trash can of the swhinn bike shop on beach blvd in buena park.i collected soda bottles for the refund to pay for everything else.

sounds cool..always much more rewarding to make it yourself. although I do like my $300 mountain bike I have now.

I have called the cops several times on vagrants who were raiding my construction dumpster. They always seemed to move on to looking inside the house, under the house, in garages....
Even had one clown pulling aluminum siding off my house while I watched from across the street while waiting in line to vote.
IF you ask politely and tell them what you are going to use it for they will almost always say yes, provided you don't make a mess.

My way of thinking is "it's ok until someone tells you to stop" In other words, it's fair game unless someone who works at the site tells me they don't want people in the dumpsters. No signs, fair game...what do you think?
