H&R USH 20ga shooting Remington buckhammers slugs. Good out to 125 yards and only cost $4.00 a box at Ruralking. They do some damage!

I shot a deer last week with the 3" Accutip and was not 100% pleased with performance. I am gonna give them one more try though.
Rifle season isnt open until tomorrow! Why did you shoot a slug gun last week?

Why did you shoot a slug gun last week? Fort Campbell, I just read on the Fort thread were he killed a spike thinking it was a doe. I have taken 3 deer with shotgun this year. All on the Fort.

I grew up hunting in Iowa where the only option is slugs (or ML).
Slug technology has progressed exponentially in the last ten years, thanks to their necessity in certain "big buck" midwestern states. No doubt a "slug gun" today can be something far greater than what it was a decade ago.
In some ways, slug hunting has become akin to muzzleloader hunting in terms of the ever-growing variety of loads and set-ups that one can select from to gain the greatest performance from one's weapon.
I think the best thing you can do is try a variety of loads on the range to see what your gun shoots most accurately. Then, you'll have to see how that load actually performs on a deer given shot placement, distance, etc.
Some people don't enjoy that part of putting the pieces together to make your gun (and yourself) as effective as possible, but I think that's one of the most satisfying parts of the experience.
So good luck - and enjoy "the quest!" =)
