I'd say the antlers would work fine.
Someday maybe I can bag a deer that's sporting 5". Heehehe.

A buddy of mine "rattled" in a buck using an empty water bottle.
About 15 yrs back, I read an article in magazine called "Tea cup Buck" or something of that effect.
It was the usual story of an average guy who nailed a huge buck of a lifetime, the twist was he rattled him in using an old Melmac tea cup and a saucer, it appeared the gentleman was washing the camp dishes and happened to drop the tea cup into the strainer and it bounced around and sounded like two bucks clashing horns......................So, he carried one cup and a saucer to his stand the next day and started tickling the saucer on the bottom and edges of the cup. The rest made it into Whitetail Hunter magazine.
Melmac dishes were a huge hit in the'40's & '50's, They were a resin based (Melamine) product that was cheap and easy to make.
Funny, most of the rattling bags today are filled with resin rods of varying shapes and sizes. Maybe the guy invented the first artificial rattling devices and someone capitalized off the story.
