what if you're hunting in the woods where privet and honeysuckle have taken over the understory...we all know they're invasive and it's good to get rid of them so why not cut a few down and pile up the branches to use as cover while hunting?

Well I'm sure the idea isn't at all new but I thought using invasives in particular would be good.

So maybe somebody here has gone a step further and made something cool out of bushes from the woods...anything?

I have made many blinds by cutting down or hinge cutting a small cedar tree or other brushy tree.

Privet will take root in just a day or two if you pile it up like that - we pulled a bunch of it out of a local park a few months back, was going to take a few days to get it hauled off and burned so we had to put the uprooted plants on pavement.

Blowdowns make excellent blind starters!

I'm going to make some on Yanahli this winter so I can just go use em during spring turkey season. Thinking of doing it lincoln-log style with extra branches and brush piled around the outside

Man, I sit on my butt inside of a blow down, and its only 2-3 ft tall all around me with a few branches sticking out over the main part of the blind for extra concealment, I like to be able to see 360 degrees without a problem and be able to shoot 360 degrees as well, any movements I make at all while in the blind are very slow hardly noticeable movements, that faster you move, the quicker a birds eye will catch you moving, so if you have to readjust or move, do it slowly and cautiously

Used to ther were tree tops left over from logg'n and they made some killer ground blinds with a little work, lotta times you could find one that was elevated sevral feet off the ground that made them even better to see from.

now they dont leave much tops at all, only a pile of limbs, but some are 8 or 10 feet tall, I've been think'n about try'n some of those out but the thought of copper heads and rattle snakes in the spring turkey season and fall bow season keeps me out of'em.

You can't let snakes keep you away from a setting up a good blind, you are more apt to get bit stepping over a log walking to your hunting spot, then you are by sitting with one in a blind

Used to the loggin outfits would just cut the trunk off the tree and leave a big top on the ground, you could get sevral feet off the ground with a little work have a nice blind.

Now days they use more of the tree and push up a pile of limbs about the size of a 2 car garage (have seen'm bigger), a pile that size would make a killer place to hold up and wait for a deer to walk past but it also would make a ideal place for snakes to hunt and den up.

I get what your say'n but during the late summer and fall it mite not be such a good idea.

if I can just drag out some of the dead logs/branches and small dead tree trunks to stack em up either like a tepee or like a log cabin...and then cover with dead brush around the outside and leave room for shooting and a good beam to rest the gun on for a steady shot.

you won't need a made rest for turkey hunting, that's what your knees are for, and if he don't walk in front you, like they usually don't, then you just slowly move your gun free handedly towards the turkey, usually when he walks behind a tree is the best time to make a last second adjustment

I like to mix it up, half and half, half fresh snipped cedar limps or other greenery, and half dead sticks and dead limbs, most camo has green on it, so its good to try and make it as close to your camo as you can, because turkey recognize something that isn't suppose to be there, because you are in there "living room" basically, that's why I prefer to use blowdowns that have been there for a while because turkeys are accustomed to seeing that blowdown in the same spot
