Hunted yesterday on a place that I had previously seen about 12 deer in 12 years on and most of them were years ago. Set at the end of a large beanfield not really expecting to get a shot, just hoping to see something. At 5:15 I saw a buck walking out of a thicket to my left walking a line about 45 yards in front of me. I had told myself that I would shoot pretty much anything bigger than a 4 point because this was the only piece of land I have to hunt this year and rarely saw deer on it. He was a small 2.5 year old 6 point and I just couldn't pull the trigger. As he walked off I kept asking him why he wasn't a doe or a year older.

Know how you feel. Been hunting property for the first time and passed on a 6 during archery just because he looked like he was 2 1/2. Hard choice, but the right one.

6 'doe' walked out in front of me yesterday evening. So I shot one at about 75 yards. When I got to it I found out I had shot a button buck. I am still feeling bad about that.

I've had the chance to kill 4 or 5 doe already and I've passed on them hoping for a buck. So, I know what it feels like to pass up fresh meat. I will tell u this, in the morning, if its brown its down!

If it would have been a doe it would have been down, no hesitation, Pic, I have done that 3 times and I never felt any better about it

You did good. If it doesn't make you happy then no need to kill it for the sake of killing.
