Nice buck, congrats. Is the 3.5 yr old determination based on teeth wear or was that the age the U of M students "assigned" him?

That is what the guy that was teaching the students aged him as by looking at his teeth with a spotlight. My brother is better at aging than I am and he also said 3 1/2. I guessed the same based on his body size and teeth, but like I said, I am far from an expert. He was 190 live weight.

Good deal. My buddy killed a nice 115" 8pt there Sunday morning and the U of M personnel "assigned" his deer an age of 2.5 without looking at the teeth. I thought that was pretty lame, that is why I was asking. Thanks for your response and congrats again on a fine buck.

Thanks Andy

They had a device for spreading the jaws without cutting the skin and a spotlight to check the teeth when I checked him in. Was the deer your buddy killed actually 3?

Not sure yet. He is supposed to bring the jaw over for examination in the near future. Like I said, I thought it was lame that the U of M personnel "assigned" his buck an age based on how the dead deer "appeared" laying there gutted and his field dressed weight. It did not seem very scientific to me.

That is pretty lame. I saw the post where you asked if the data was used by the TWRA or just the U of M. If it is used by TWRA it should be better validated IMO.
