Even kids deer hunt with a 223. or 243. A .223 is a 22 cal. When I'm talking about 22 cal. I'm talking about a 20 grain bullet.... Not compared to a much bigger grain like the .223- or 22-250... I think most people call a 22 cal. a 22.... not a .223 or 22-250.... You never asked what weight bullet was ethical. You asked about a 22 cal. I think most people call a 22 cal. a 22.... not a .223 or 22-250....
If your talking about a rim fire then they generally do, unless they are stipulating a .22 magnum....They just use the suffixs on the center fires because of all the various chamber sizes.
.... but even the rim fire .22 mics out about .222

The bullet pulled from the deer was probably a 17 grain bullet from a regular 22 cal. rifle....
I don't know of any 22 cal, rimfire or centerfire, that shoots a 17 grain bullet. It must be a 17 HMR or 17 Mach 2.

I'd like to shoot one with my 204 Ruger this fall during Rifle season on my Macon Co lease I'm gonna be looking for a doe, just to see if Kiptyn or Amy can use it if they want to!

A heavy for caliber bullet in 204 will do alot better than a 22lr. Just shoot where you would with a bow in the soft spot BEHIND the shoulder.

Berger makes a 30 grain match hollow point, smallest one I know of.
