That fork-horn is probably the offspring of one of the does. It's not that uncommon for some yearling bucks to stay with their mother's social group.

I'm really glad to hear that I'm not the only one not seeing any rut activity. Actually, I'm not seeing any deer at all, and the week of Thanksgiving is usually the hottest week of the season for my place too for seeing bucks on the move.

I shot a 7 point opening day and an 8 point last Thursday. The 7 point's neck was just starting to swell and his tarsal glands were getting a little dark/stinky. The 8 point's neck wasn't even starting to swell and his tarsal glands were normal. I saw a couple young, small bucks "cruising," but nothing real involved. My brother has seen a couple of young bucks actually chasing/dogging does, and 1 was a small 9 or 10 point. I have also started finding a few small scrapes. This was in the Northern Hamilton/Southern Rhea area.

South Giles, had a 2.5 year old 8 point chasing a doe yesterday, she was in heat. Seeing a lot of bumping from yearling bucks. I am betting next week its going to be on full swing.

I hunted the last 4 days in SW TN and the deer were still acting like it was archery season. Doe/fawn groups still very apparent and even still some bucks still running together. Scrapes are popping up everywhere and I am picking up several different bucks at scrape sites, just not any big boys yet. I expect it to blow wide open here any day now.

I shot a 8 point the friday before muzzy with my x-bow and he was chasing a doe and neck was fully swollen. That said its the only deer i have seen with any rutting activity at all, still getting trail cam pics of bachelor groups on our other property.

Shot a 3 1/2 year old buck in South Fayette yesterday. Neck swollen and tarsal glands were dark and wet. Stunk to high heaven. that being said have only seen 1 or 2 scrapes and few rubs. I think its very close.

This is normal though, right? Bucks have these signs before peak rut. They are pumped up waiting for does to come into estrus
