Was getting my stands down from the place we lost and when I undone the rachet strap at the top of the stand the stand shot out, I hung on for dear life but their ain't many stands that will hold my 300 pounds while bending back. The top 5 foot section bent to a 90 degree angle and that threw the seat and foot rest off which I was hanging on to. 15 feet later I hit the ground on the left side of my back. Somehow I got right back up and besides some bruises I seem to be ok.. The only thing is even though I landed on my left side, my right shoulded and upper arm is giving me some trouble. Could have been alot worse though.

Glad you are ok, it could have been a lot worse, trust me. I fell 25 feet a couple weeks back and broke my pelvis. Hope you feel better in the coming days.

I fell about 20 foot or a little more when I was probably 15 from a stand. It's not any fun.

Glad you're OK.

I know you couldn't help it in your situation, but that is the reason I just leave my ladder stands up all year.

That is why we X ropes off the top around the tree and tie to ladder at head high from ground.

You could hunt without rachets but we still rachet them but no worry about stand twisting or coming off tree when you release them.

300lb or not, I'm still going up a tree if I can, just cause I'm a big guy doesn't mean I'm not able to do the same things others can

If you walked away just being sore to show for it consider yourself lucky and heed that warning. Use some type of safety device from the first step off the ground until you return to the ground. "I should have" doesn't cut it once the damage is done.

Did the same thing a few weeks back. That few seconds that the stand hung in the air with me hanging on the ladder before it came down seemed like hours. I remember thinking, "Okay, big boy, you've got yourself in a pickle now, haven't you?" I sort of slid down the ladder and tucked and rolled when I hit the ground and the stand didn't come down on top of me. Thankfully it went over to the side of me.
No injuries, but a LOT of self-verbal abuse. I knew better. Accidents happen when I'm stupid...and I was stupid.
God protected you and he protected me. I think sometimes he gives us a little 'wake-up' call like that because he knows its the only way we learn.
Stay safe, brother.

That's exactly what happen to me last year, but my left leg did not fair as well as you did ! Broke the Tib, and Fib bones, and had surgery with pins and screws, and missed several weeks of work ! All because my dumb butt took off the crossed ropes on the ladder! What a dumb move !!!! 50 cent of rope caused me thousands in medical bills.

Bad thing is I had rope ied to the stand about mid way up but I was just to heavy for the top of the stand to hold
