I was just wondering if any of you hunt over at forks of the river WMA in knoxville? I have hit it a few times this year, and have yet to see a deer. Im hunting a little ridge and a bottom, and theres been fresh sign on the ridge a couple times. It seems to me the deer on this WMA are entirely nocturnal. I have noticed that there are alot of walking and biking trails all through this WMA, which I would say has helped these deer learn to avoid people even better.. What do you all think of this area?

A lot of foot traffic during the day.... Scouted it a couple of times and both times I seen a doe... I was a little more worried about parking my vehicle (thieves in area) then hunting...

Funny you mention that... I have not had any problems with that yet, however, I do carry My .40 cal on my hip when I hunt there. Ive seen dogs running around when you get closer to the roads, and some of the folk and houses look a little shady over there... But I take my chances going there due to the fact that other than the foothills WMA that is the closest place for me to hunt.

I have hunted there off and on for years. Never had any theft problems. The deer there KNOW people and never use the hiking trails, nor will you hardly ever see one from the trails. You can go days, no, make that months, without seeing one. They are about as difficult to find as it can get. I hunted about 5 years and got two shots, and killed one 8 with a bow. But that was when no one else was hunting it. For some reason the pressure picked up so I don't hunt it as much.
Either hunt it the first week or two of bow, while they're still around or during the rut when a buck might wander through looking for a lonely doe. Otherwise the majority leave the area for safer places. They'll swim the river and spend their time on the industrial land on the other side.
