I don't know how it's done everywhere else, but here in middle TN it always has been and still is, antlered or antlerless. The following is straight out of the Hunting & Trapping Guide:
"Anterless Deer: Defined as those deer with no antlers or deer with both antlers less than three (3) inches in length."
There is no buck, doe, or button buck in the regs, it's antlered or antlerless. All deer are classified as one or the other.

Yodel is correct however he is not accounting for common sense. If you count the points by looking at the antlers I see two points so you tell the clerk "2" when they ask the number of points. Then they will ask you if they are over 3 inches and you say "no". The deer will register as a antlerless deer and you will not loose your buck tag. It's really simple.

A few years ago I hunted Georgia. That would have been a legal buck to kill in that state when the regs said "visible antler" or bone or whatever, no 3 inch minimum.
In Illinois the phone check asks if it is a buck with antlers, a fawn buck with no viisible antler, or another kind of buck with less than 3 inch antler. It is very common to see deer up there with shed antlers.
I once killed a 92 pound dressed weight button with 2 inch BUTTONS. No visible bone at all.

Unlike many on here, I'm not at all experienced in checking in bucks with antlers less than 3 inches. I just know when I check in an antlerless deer the clerk behind the counter doesn't ask me how many points it had.

Me either thank goodness. We might as well go back to the 11 buck limit. As I said in another thread we have biologist saying bigger bucks are killed in Ky because of the soil...Lol! No it's because we have too many bucks killed that are considered antlerless!
