I hunted in area 15 today. I didn't see a deer. Spent 11 1/2 hours in a climber up 25 ft. First shot of the morning was over hill in next hollow and then a little latter another couple of shots on down the hollow. I guess they were the lucky ones.I heard one snort a little latter and that was the extent of any deer action where I was at. Of course it could have something to do with the dude that set up on the ground about 100 yards down the hollow from me and was blowing a grunt tube everytime a squirrel hopped through the leaves. It didn't sound to me as if there were a a whole lot of shots. I think it is just too hot for much daytime activity now.

I hunted unit 16 this past sun, mon, & wed. I was in a spot that has been great almost every day I've ever hunted it, going back 18 yrs. I usually see several deer every hunt, including big mature bucks. Not this time, though. I saw more rubs and scrapes than ever (and there is always a lot) but I saw only 2 different bucks, both young, and no does. There were 2-3 others that I didn't get a good look at (of course I always assume the ones I don't see good are booners, lol- makes it easier to keep at it).

i think the warm weather hurt, and I don't know about you, but I've NEVER seen so many acorns- mostly from white oaks. It seemed like there were more huge acorns on the ground than there were leaves! I'm sure that's not helping to concentrate the deer activity. Still, I had a great time and can't wait to go back next week. Keep us posted please.

Me, my brother, and dad hunted 13 today pretty much all day. Only seen 1 deer between the 3 of us all day long. Terrible hunting right now. It was scorching hot out there today and with tommorrow's forecast being the same with rain moving in we have made our way back to the house.

I've ALWAYS put in for the first quota hunt - and the weather is ALWAYS the same - hot and nasty. I can remember one time back in 1994 when it blew up a big storm and was cold as blue blazes on the second day of that first hunt. From now on I'm going to start putting in for the second quota hunt as my first choice.

Well I seen plenty of deer till 930am. 11 does and 4 small bucks. 3 of the bucks were shadowing the does and the one lone basket 8 buck was just feeding and walking around. I didn't see nothing the rest of the day but 3 chases. Only one small buck chasing a doe at 1st light, then at 300pm and 400pm. It sucked after 930am. I heard about 40 shots in area 12 before 930am and about 6 the rest of the day. Today the 1st doe I see is meat on the table unless a shooter buck comes by 1st.

Around 7am I had 2 small bucks(6 and 4 points)cross by me then around 730 a doe with 2 yearlings. Now I was going to take the doe but they keep stopping and looking back from where they came. Was hoping maybe a shooter buck... Nope, it was ANOTHER small 6 point. The doe was already gone and I never seen anything else the rest of my hunting day. I don't think there are any big bucks in area 12 this year. lol

I put couple of guys on my secret "spot", one killed a great 8 pointer, dressed 152 lbs and the other shot at a buck he said was as good maybe a little bigger and hit a tree limb. My tip, get away from the road.

Photos of about 45 of the larger bucks harvested during this weekend's LBL quota hunt have been added to the http://www.LBLHUNTS.myphotoalbum.com site
152 deer were checked in at South Welcome station- 93 Friday + 58 Saturday. Despite the hot weather Friday and the rain Saturday, many nice bucks were brought in.
It will take a few days to mesh the data with the photos and update the photos with the weights and measurements. The first photo in the album page shows a list of many of the heaviest deer. Most hunters went home Saturday during late morning when it started to rain a bit. Heaviest deer was 189 lbs field dressed, but it didn't have the best rack. Many bucks with swollen necks shot following does; Some others not quite into the rut yet.

Some yo-yo's were accessing the North/South trail on ATV's in area 15 near Stilly Hollow. I don't appreciate that after walking my tail off...
