6:22 in the am then not again until 1:13 Pm. JK!

Seriously i have noticed more mid day movement during that moon phase, but i have also noticed good early morning movement. that's just me. of course no telling when they will move, so just hunt as long as you can.

On average, daylight movement during a Full Moon period is approximately half that of daylight movement around the New Moon.

Not to say anything against what BSK posted because he has many more hunting seasons under his belt and much more data to back it up, but I have shot everyone one of my bigger bucks(5) during a full moon phase. Also, all of them were shot before 9 AM. I personally love the full moon.

Weather is a much more powerful player than the moon. I would MUCH rather hunt good weather conditions under a full moon than poor weather conditions under a new moon.

I do believe the moon plays a role in daylight deer movement, but I also believe that moon conditions are one of the weakest influences on deer movement.

A coworker said on his 11 acres there's one 8pt buck that only comes to the trail cam at 2am on a full moon. Not sure how much he follows that schedule but I guess that's the only times he's seen the pics of him. Interesting how evasive some deer are. I'd love to find out how to track one of those elusive bucks that are rarely ever seen even though their territory is often hunted.

Unfortunately, a GPS-collar is the only way to go. Very expensive and very hard to get around a mature buck's neck!

I am afraid with future technoligys it won't always be that way...could you imagine what effect an affordable tracking device small enough to be shot out of a tranquilizer gun type shell and embeded under the skin would have on the "hunting" sport?... \:\(

IMO technology and marketing are already starting to deminish the art of hunting from our sport....

The answer is, don't make it legal. Tranquilizer darts with tracking beacons already exist (that's how some research get GPS collars on deer). But they aren't legal for the general public to use.

Hmmm, Maybe thats how we should deal with the baiting and poaching issues,... or the crack problem!...
no offence but you know what I mean...the cats out of the bag sort thing...

When you say "good weather" are you talking cold and calm? I personally love cold, calm morning hunting in the thick stuff. Some of the biggest deer I have seen/killed though have been in terrible weather. My neighbor killed a non typical 140 class deer in a torrential downpour 2 years ago. But I would take a cold, calm sunny morning over most anything.

By "good weather" I meant whatever weather conditions locally produce the most daylight movement. That can be very different weather conditions in different regions of the country.

I dont change my hunting tactics based on the moon phase. I mean think about it deer are primarily nocturnal anyways. So they can see at night without a full moon so y would this change their movement. jmo

Neither do I. I don't plan hunts around the moon or change the time I hunt.

Now I will change hunting plans based on the weather.

I'd be interested to know how you switch your tactics up for different weather conditions. On a very windy day, I usually adopt the spot and stalk method. It works well for me. I killed my first deer doing this last year. I just slip in and out of cover along big field edges.

On cold calm mornings I will hunt some of our hardwood bottoms 90% of the time. Other than hunting stands or spots that work with the wind, I don't change it up too much.

How about a sunny day versus a cloudy one?

I've found that mature bucks rarely use bottoms and valleys during the day. Even though the bottoms may be torn up with sign, they are mostly laying that at night.

Most mature bucks will stay up high during the day. They will bed on the leeward side of a point(opposite of the wind direction) and watch the valley floor.

In hill country, once the thermals begin to rise a wind tunnel is formed 1/3 up the leeward side of the mountain. This is where 90% of deer activity will take place. In this tunnel, deer will be able to smell whats above them from the prevailing wind and whats below them from the rising thermals.

Bucks will utilize this tunnel especially during the rut.

I pay very little attention to the moon and the weather other than to say..."nice moon tonight" or something like that. I'm going to go hunting anyway so it doesn't make any difference to me. Not like I'm going to say, I'd go hunting tomorrow if that moon wasn't out like that...Same with the weather, I hunt in rain, shine, snow...it's just weather and being out there is what matters to me.
