It doesn't much matter where you hunt, you will see more does than bucks. That in no way means the sex ratio is bad. What you see is seldom what is there.

If the statewide deer herd is as good or as close to Wilson and surrounding Counties, TN must have one of the healthiest deer herds in the country and perhaps one of the best in terms of sex and age ratios.
Good Job TWRA. All it took was a year with good weather and good mast to show us what we have.
Don't change a dadgummed thing! It is as perfect as you are going to get it outside private land. I think you are wrong about the sex ratio. I have hunted many diffrent places in Tennesse, and from my observation, there are far more does than bucks. I think the ratio as far as buck to doe is not that good ! Just because you don't see them don't mean they aren't there. A Pre Season ratio worse than 3 to 1 is all but biologically impossible in an established deer herd. You may not be hunting the areas where the bucks travel. I see several bucks at the places I hunt, but alot more does. Just for instance, we saw 2 bucks saturday evening on the youth hunt, but we also saw 19 does. On This past saturday's muzzle loader, at a diffrent piece of property, saw 1 buck, and 6 does.It all depends where you hunt I guess, but I still beleive the buck to doe ratio is not all that high in Tennessee.But on the same piece of property a few years ago, the one where I muzzle loader hunted the other day one morning I saw 6 bucks, and no does lol. go figure.
Hunter-observed sex ratios are meaningless in areas where buck harvests are heavy. Bucks stop moving during daylight while does do not. This greatly skews what is seen by hunters.

I typicly see 5 bucks to every doe on one peice of property that I hunt....I guess I could assume that the whole state is like that.....

He said where BUCK harvests are heavy. You are right though. Doe harvest pressure will drive them nocturnal in a hurry.

Oh, certainly does become more nocturnal as well, but not as much as bucks do in high-buck, low-doe harvest areas. Hunter observations rarely tell the true story of herd sex and age structure. Deer of different ages and sexes do not move equally in daylight, where they can be observed. Only trail-cams running 24 hours per day will provide the real info, and even that can be hard to determine depending upon how the cameras are set up.
