If you hunt long enough you "will" lose a deer at some point and time. It seems like every year I see or hear someone say I just shot a deer, we tracked it forever and never found it. I don't think I can hunt again, I just can't stand the thought of an animal out there suffering because of something I done. I can tell you after hunting over the last 30-years, if you hunt long enough you will eventually lose one. Now I'm not saying don't feel bad about it but it's no reason to stop hunting all together. You'll be surprised how tuff these animals are we love to hunt. We've seen pictures on here of animals with some nasty looking wounds still getting around with no problems. Losing a deer is not something any of us should take lightly but it's not a reason to stop hunting all together. I can remember squirrel hunting as a kid and sometimes I would shoot one and not be able to find it. I learnt then that's just a part of hunting, no matter which species you decide to go after. Just remember, it's happened to the best of best, Waddell, Jordan, Adams, Potts, Fitzgerald and many, many more. Don't let this be the reason you stop getting out there and enjoying God's county...

I agree you will lose one if you hunt,I shot one with a blackpowder a few years ago looked all day and never found it,a few day's later I seen it with a 50 cal hole in it's side still living.Point proven these are tough animals.

I agree one hundred percent! Just a small thing, I think the word you wanted was lose.

I cut one up several years back that had a broadhead just under its spine. It had drilled a perfectly round hole through the shoulder blade, just didn't get the lungs. That buck was perfectly healthy. Another had a broadhead in neck muscle just beside the trachea. Another had obviously taken a slug down low in the belly. I skipped an arrow off a grapevine and hit a buck high in the back legs a few years back, complete pass through, and I saw that buck two or three times during gun season. He had an obvious scar, but didn't seem any worse for wear.

They are tough, and if they don't die quick I think, generally, they survive with little problem. They are wild animals, even if they do seem special to us. They die every day in all kinds of ways, not the worst of which is bleeding to death in a brush pile where we couldn't find it.

True. I know the feeling (although I found mine), you just gotta move past it, think about what went wrong, and try not to repeat it.
