If you mean bedding areas, I have never thought that was a great idea. AM's I try to hunt the corridors where I think they (the does) will be moving from food to cover. and I try to get close enough to see the thicket. This isn't always easy to do (I hunt ridges and the thermals don't ever cooperate), but it works for me. Generally I try not to disturb feeding or bedding areas at all, and I expect to see deer mostly late in the morning. The days I've hunted recently I didn't see a deer before 9:30. The buck I killed midweek was chasing 4 does at 11:30...out of the thicket. He was the 13th deer I had seen between 10 and 11:30, and while I was field dressing another 4 does ran by with a 6 pt behind them.
Having said all that, there are no hard and fast rules, except you have to be in the woods, especially on those cold clear days when the deer really move around.

Is hunting where the does are at a solid, proven strategy for hunting this part of the season?
It is one technique many hunters use, but certainly not the only technique. Personally, I do not hunt doe areas during the rut. I hunt near sanctuaries.
