I finally got to go this a.m. I've been putting in extra long hours at work and when I do have time off there always seems to be something waiting at the house. So I said I'm done going hunting. I went to my favorite tree in the best rutting area I know. Just before the sun came up a young 4-6pt came walking along a thicket I had heard him and some squirrels all mornin so I thought that was cool, Just about the time he got out of sight a big doe came running straight toward my tree. As she went under me I noticed her tail was about halfway up. I immediately thought she was in heat. Well here comes that young buck hot on her trail. He's grunting and having a big time. When he gets under my tree he stops and stiffens up ears laid back posturing I really started looking and here comes another buck from under some cedars. At this point I grab my camera and put it on video just as the fight starts. I fumbled then promptly turned it off while trying to start recording. I finally get it going while they were pushing and grunting then after a couple of minutes a winner was declared then they both started toward where the doe went. Oh and they called in another spike to watch. I think I might have learned something they did not clack and clatter they grunted and bellowed pushed and popped limbs. Something I might have to try. After that they went into a thicket and another buck came out to see what was going on. He trailed her and them into the thicket and that was the last I saw of them. A little later a lonely looking fawn eased up the hill I believe it was her doe fawn from this year. Then the turkeys came through with the jakes strutting and posturing it was quite comical. But, all in all it was a super morning for me. Except for the wind blowing exactly opposite from the forecasted direction.

Sounds like a great day! Some of my most memorable days hunting didn't involve killing or dragging anything home.
