Another quota hunt is scheduled for the Tennessee portion of Land Between The Lakes this weekend. For those of you scheduled to hunt, or just plain curious, here's a few things to keep in mind.
1008 hunters were drawn for this Friday-Saturday hunt as follows: AREA..ACRES.PERMITS.Acres/Hunter 11.....6,061.....84.......72.muzzloader only 12.....9,179....167.......55 13....11,554....207.......56 14.....7,405....131.......57 15....13,611....241.......56 16....10,626....178.......60 TOTALS.58,436..1008....Average= 59
All harvested deer must be checked in at the South Welcome station. Staff will be working there Friday and Saturday from 6:30am to 7:00pm (central time zone). Gather the info you need before you come, such as maps and liscenses. *Hunter Use permits, which are required to hunt and are not part of any Tennessee State license, can be purchased from your local hunting license dealer. Otherwise, you can purchase one from any of the LBL welcome centers between 9am and 5pm. Hunting licenses are not sold at LBL welcome stations.
*TN Residents- Remember to get your Annual Big Game Gun license added to your basic Hunting and Fishing Combination license. WMA permits are not needed on LBL. If you have a Lifetime, Sportsmans, Junior, etc type license your covered.
*Print some good maps for yourself from the LBL web site: http://www.lbl.org/VCMaps.html and look at the 10-11 LBL HUNT AREA MAPS and the 10/11 LBL HABITAT MAP GRID & INDEX (3MB) then select your favorite spot!
*If you have any questions, call the LBL Wildlife Office at 270-924-2064 or 2065, but remember that Thursday, November 11 is a federal holiday. The phone number for the South Welcome station is 931-232-7956.
*Read the regulations!!! The most common tickets handed out on LBL during quota hunts are for illegal use of roads and illegal parking. Go to: http://www.lbl.org/VCRulesGate.html and http://www.lbl.org/Hunting.html to brush up on your LBL rules regulations.
*Print your Quota Hunt Permit- remember to dig up your password for printing the permit online. Your user name is made up of parts of your personal information (birth date+ social security number). Go to https://www.usedirect.com/quotahunt/Login.aspx to print your permit. If you can't get that to work, then call the office and they can help you out, otherwise, go to the South Welcome station where they can look up your quota hunt permit info and make a new one for you to carry.
*Once you select a spot to hunt, try to find one or two backup spots to use in case another hunter beats you into the area or spoils your spot. A lot of hunters think they have found a perfect out-of-the-way spot by scouting early, only to find out that several other hunters have done the same thing. That's a rude suprise for all of you involved, but if you have a backup spot your hunt may not be spoiled. This is another reason why you shouldn't leave your stand in the woods overnight-- at least for the first night; other hunters will not know your stand is there and may be planning to set up close to you, or walk all over your deer trails on the way to their hunting spots. If your stand is back in the woods, you don't have an easy way to move in time for the morning hunt. Having a lot of hunters in an area can be either good or bad, depending on how you look at it. Many deer that would otherwise sit tight are forced to move as hunters shuffle throughout their territories. This allows many hunters, who are in spots where they might not see a good deer, to get a crack at a good deer.
*If you harvest a deer, you must check it in at the South Welcome Station. They also have information about places to hang your deer in a cooler or have it processed.
*If you see a hog or coyote you can legally kill it if you are drawn for this hunt. Hogs are few and far between at this time on LBL, but if you get one, it needs to be checked in so they can draw some blood and tissue samples. If you harvest your deer early in the quota hunt, you can go back out to hunt for coyotes and hogs- make sure you have a copy of your quota hunt permit so that Law Enforcement knows you are allowed to be out there.
If you are curious to see harvest summary sheets of past hunts, or want to see photos of deer brought in to LBL check stations, to go http://www.LBLHUNTS.myphotoalbum.com
Good Luck!

So I kill a deer just before legal hunting ends. What should be done if you can't get it there by 7:00 pm. Normally you take it to the nearest check station or I guess you could call it in. But since this is a quote hunt is it different? In this case I would call the south game station but since you are here I figured I would ask now since I have thought about this before and talked to others about it. Thanks.

If no one is there by the time you drag that deer out and truck it to South Welcome, then you can check it off site. Law Enforcement will let you slide for something like that. Also, some deer shot late in the day are not recovered until the next morning. Just make sure you check it in according to state regs.
