Maybe everybody isn't after antlers!! Did that ever cross your "redneck" mind?? Since you say you are a redneck..Alot of people don't get to hunt alot, and some do..So those ones that don't get to hunt much, are gonna shoot the first legal deer to fill their tag..People like you burn me up.Trying to dictate what everyone else "should" kill..I say mind your own business and stop trying to put other people down for shooting what they want..Its their tag,not yours!

My sentiments exactly Cecil....maybe not as stearn, but feel the same way.
Mine as well Cecil!

Hey poco....take your opinion and a couple dollars to Starbucks and get you a latte....tell them your problems, and see if they care.

You do the same! After all, you're just expressing your opinion like I am. Like anyone gives a hoot what either one of us thinks.

I know people who shoot what ever just so they can say "I killed this many". Those same people want to shoot a good buck but can't figure out why this seldom happens for them. Duuuuhhhhh its because they shoot everthing they see. The first thing they see every time they set foot in the woods is gona get lead slung at it. They were bragging the other day about how they killed 28 last year. Now on their side they eat every one of them so its hard for me to say to much but every now and again I make a comment about how that would of been a good buck one day. They just love killing them. I on the other hand like watching them I don't kill alot by choice. They give me a hard time and tell me to leave the gun at home and just carry a cammera.

These threads really do give me a sick feeling, and I can't think of another topic that makes me feel this way regarding all the posts I see here on this site. It's deer hunting......different strokes for different folks, and just b/c some of those folks don't agree with some certain type of management philosophy doesn't make them any less of a deer hunter...maybe less of a trophy hunter in some eyes, but certainly not less of a deer hunter. Rant on. ;\)

I don't understand you getting a "sick feeling". I don't think you are reading my post carefully. It doesn't have to be one extreme or the other. In fact, I'm not even advocating NOT killing young bucks. If thats what you want to do, then go for it.

But if all you want to do is get some meat - kill a doe! There are a lot more of them! In the area I hunt, we estimate the buck to doe ratio at 1:6.

And no, they might not be a bonehunter, but I guarantee you they would be thrilled and telling everyone they knew if they killed a big buck.

Its a "shoot anything that moves" mentality that I'm talking about, and again.... while I was checking that doe this guy comes in beaming with the forkhorn that he killed. He had them cut the horns off and was 9 kinds of proud of it. GO for it dude!

There are just significantly fewer bucks in this area than does, and it DOES make me a little sad to see a bunch of decapitated yearling buck heads in the dumpster. My thoughts are, show some [censored] restraint. If you want meat, kill a doe! There are too many does here.

The sick feeling is in relation to the title of this thread mostly. It wreaks of discord within the ranks of hunters, that it would bother you so much as to post as you did. Nothing personal to you docpoco, but this kind of bickering and downing of other hunters legal hunting techniques and successes will be more ammo for the non-hunter PETA types to further regulate and strangle the freedom we now enjoy, imo.

Well I will say this, your allowed your opinion...My first thought was to tell you to go ***k yourself and your opinion. But I want to explain myself. I was raised on a farm, we raised a few beef and hogs. I was taught to hunt, and what we killed was eaten by the family, small game or big game whatever was in season. I am now in my 40's and still have that mentality. I still raise a few head of cattle. I have a wife and 3 boys. My boys and myself put meat in the freezer, small game or big game whatever is in season. My wife is glad to cook what is harvested. We live off what we kill, I have hunted since I was old enough to carry a rifle. In my neck of the woods, I dont have the liberty to take 4 does a day. I usually shoot the first deer I see, unless I can tell its a yearling or a button buck. I have made a mistake and taken small deer, yes I have a 6 pointer on my wall, along with a 10 pointer. I have quite a few trophy's on my wall, hogs, a 4x5 elk, a big horn sheep. So I do see it your way about having "trophy's" In your opinion I suck at hunting ...maybe, and maybe Im a redneck (I guess I am) But your belittling me as a hunter because I "deer hunt" is absolutely ludicrous.

Not trying to start an argument but what about folks like me that have does but no bucks. I'll kill a spike, 4pt, whatever. I'll get pickier after taking a couple. TN could stop some of this by dropping the limit on bucks!

That is just a general blanket statement, you don't know what other folks situations are do you...cause thats not what I am experianceing. In the last several years I am generaly seeing 4 or 5 bucks for every doe where I am hunting.

I'm inclined to offer praise to my neighbor when he shoots a doe.

I'm more inclined to look at the ground and shake my head when he kills a 4pointer.

Especially when he tells me they hunt for meat and let 5 does pass that morning.

Heck, I've only seen 4 deer total since ML season, our numbers have dwindled substantially over the past couple of years since my landowner neighbor took up his version of qdm....we gotta shoot those does, all we can of'em. Oh well, more power to him I say, but this has hurt the numbers overall around and on my place.

Well that's just the problem. Why would you think this is directed at you? First of all, you said you would let a spike or yearling walk if possible - that pretty much excludes you anyways.

Secondly, I specifically said that the people I know who shoot the first thing that walks out suck at hunting. I am speaking about people that I actually know. And yeah, they are not good hunters. They take shots at deer they shouldn't and lose deer. They often go whole seasons without a kill. They don't practice scent control, and they B*tch about not seeing deer, etc.

I have shot small deer too, especially when I was younger, and I am by technicality a redneck too. You sound like a very good hunter, and I don't know at all why you would think this is directed at you based on everything you wrote.
