Could one of you smart guys or gals explain to me in english what a so called land saddle is? I hear alot of talk on hunting saddles, and I have an idea just need conformation on what one is!

I think it's a "dip" in terrain. Like where two ridges slope down and meet in a low spot.

A saddle is a low spot in the terrain. The best example of a saddle would be a gap in a ridge.

Picture, in your mind's eye, a long ridge viewed from one side at ground level. Now picture a spot on that ridge that looks like a piece was snipped out of it creating a noticable dip. That is a saddle.

Game will use a saddle because it presents the easiest path from which to cross from one side of a ridge or mountain to the other side.

Saddle: A Low spot in a ridge line.

Because it is low and usually narrow, it is the easiest travel route to use when going from one side of the hill to the other. The more forrest on each side of the saddle, the more deer the saddle tends to carry.

Just think of a saddle on a horse. its higher on each end than it is in the middle... \:\)

Bingo!! I have the most success in saddles. If you can find a saddle with another ridge making a "T" in the saddles with good cover you have a true hot spot.
